i5 4670K Voltage?

I have overclocked my CPU very modestly to 4.1GHz at around 1.170V. I have a Noctua NH-U14S CPU Cooler and temps have never exceeded 51 when playing any games. It is stable at that frequency as well and my temps average and hover mainly around 45 when playing intense games. I am also running a - offset of 0.012 and its fine.

When I overclocked to 4.3GHz it kept crashing so I got rid of the offset, and the CPU core voltage peaks at 1.184V thereabouts. Would this be a safe overclock at those voltages if I wanted to OC from 4.1 to 4.3 ???

As long as it is stable yes. You are by no means over volting.

perfecly safe. Im currently running ......well, a bit more.

Just keep your temps below 80C stress testing. I consider ~70C under load ok.

Well at 4.2GHz in CPU-Z it says 1.181V and when I run Aida64 it says 1.261V. Is the true voltage under load 1.261 when gaming or 1.181?

If you are stress testing with adaptive set on, it will run at higher voltage than what you set. You want to test in override mode.

Thanks for the tip. But, how do I take advantage of the under-volting, when the CPU down-clocks to 800Mhz and 0.709 volts when its not being used...??? I dont want to run the CPU at 1.181 constantly when its not needed
post #7 of 9
You can have adaptive on for normal situations, but you need to make sure it is off for stress testing. Rarely will you see the same usage levels in normal everyday use as you do under a stress test. Should be fine. Just have a hardware monitor of some sort and check it every so often if you want to be sure. I run 4.6 on my 4670 at 1.22v. Under normal conditions it never goes above that mark. If i stress with adaptive on it will hit 1.38v(not good).

This all assumes you are not folding or something that requires higher than normal CPU use. If you are than the advice would be different.

Ok cool thx. In terms of temps im at 4.4Ghz and 1.204V and temps peak at 55 on one core, in real temp and averages at about 48 to 50 under load when playing games. These temps acceptable? What would be the absolute max operating cpu temps when gaming?
Those temps are perfectly fine. 80C is my "comfortable max" stress testing, but like to stay closer to 70C for gaming and such.
