However, I can't seem to do ITB or Cinebench and pull a (WHEA_Uncontrollable) error and then the system reboots into Overclock Failed! bios message

id personally go thru and set manual voltage controls.

if its not that then i would get new ram as thats the only thing that is significantly slower than the rest and could be causing the issues.

The RAM is brand new @ 1866 which is the native rated speed for the 4930k from what I understand, thus, it is essentially a plug and play ram option. Am I incorrect on that? Why would slower RAM be the problem? Also, why would I primarily only encounter errors when I do the Extreme/Maximum or anything higher than standard on IBT. I get the WHEA UNCONTROLLABLE error for both cinebench (immediately after starting) and on higher IBT runs (sometimes after 2-3 passes, sometimes instantly)..

Could the RAM be defective? Still not undertanding why 1866 is a problem.

Thanks!

thats all i saw, another reason for you to add real info with specs and part numbers to sig like everyone else, i have no idea what hardware you are using.

1866 isnt bad, so hmm, not really sure but if your setting everything to auto that in itself can be causing problems. my memory wont even boot to desktop with bios set to auto.

and slower ram is a problem because the cpu gets speed etc off of ram, having slow or incorrect ram can cause issues and make cpu very hard to overclock becuase the ram is the bottleneck. generally speaking.

I went ahead and updated my signature for that reason, however, all of that information (and more detailed information) was posted a page before you asked about that.

So, I got the 4.5 and also got it to complete a cinebench test. Looks like the volts are hovering around 1.456 pretty steadily on auto. Is this too high or dangerous? Sorry for the image size, I tried to crop the image and it screwed the image up every time.

EDIT -- on Prime 95 the Core Voltage (according to CPU-Z & HW Monitor) fluctuates between 1.472 &1.48 while doing Blend testing. Is this a sign of a bad chip?

Thanks

Way too high for 4.5ghz. Try 1.28- 1.32v. Auto setting voltage will not help you find a good oc. Read some guides for Asus mobos.

There's a good guide for for z77 that translates pretty well to x79. http://www.overclock.net/t/1291703/ivy-bridge-overclocking-guide-asus-motherboards. This is Ivy-E afterall. Voltages may bit a bit higher than the guide describes. We are dealng with 6 cores instead of 4 for Ivy-E.

I am beginning to wonder if I damaged the chip somehow?

What r u using for ram? tri channel? Can you borrow a set of faster ram? It seems kind of slow for what ur doing. I'm not certain though, just wondering?

I'm sure 1 of the experts here can help!

Guys - you are seriously OVERVOLTING your CPUs if you are really running voltages >1.4V ... unless you're subzero cooling (like dryice or liquid nitrogen).
