Sent a pm for some help, as I am really lost. Most of the stuff you guys are referring to is all new to me. Vccsa PLL,... I've read the info on each

setting and have PLL ov enabled whenever I try ocing. Can't get anywhere with cpu strap yet. Set LLC from Med to ultra high with no help in ocing

results. Still can't run 4.7 with any lower voltage than 1.39-1.4 Perhaps I should try rmaing this chip. It ran @ 1.465-1.47 b4 so it can handle some

abuse, but I stopped running higher voltages as soon as I got help from people on here and found out how over 1.4 is bad for these chips.

I ran an offset @ .090 with turbo @ both 116 and 080. I believe .080 worked while 116 crashed.

Can someone post a few pics of bios settings to dbl check what I might consider adjusting?

Sorry folks but I'm really lost!!! Thought I knew and understood a bit more than I do I guess....redface.gif

Why do you need to run your set up @ 4.7 is there any important reason??

Because i think some peoples expectations of how far and how much these CPU's will Overclock is some what too high!!

Its impossible that everyone is going to have a CPU that will do 4.8 or more, even 5.0 these are rare and not to common to say the least.

From what i have read and seen on this site you have to BIN a awful lot of CPU's just to find that GOLDEN ONE!!

That said a 4.5 it not a bad CPU, yes maybe a little below PAR and one that will run @ 4.7 @ 1.4 Volts is very good in my experience!

For my 10c a OC of 4.2 for everyday would be about right and , if you game or Overclock in Competitions then 4.6 or 4.8 if your CPU will allow is golden.

But a lot of you need to read and learn how to Overclock and set up this Motherboard Properly, just upping the MULTI and leaving things on Auto in most cases will not cut it!

Respectfully,

AJ.

Its a damn shame these things don't clock like sandybee $660AU for a chip that's flat out doing 4.6gigs ......... frown.gif

Gave up trying to get a solid stable 4.5Ghz on my 4960x within 1.4v, back to my 3960X, which at 4.8Ghz out performs it, less voltage and runs cooler.

Well before i got my 4960X the 4930K would only OC to 4.5 Max!!!

It was just pure luck i found someone that was Binning 4960X CPU's and managed to snag a really good one.

But again that was through Binning Chips, not just buying them from a shop and playing the Silicone Lottery like everyone else!

So in some cases its what you are prepared to pay for that Extra 100 or 200 Hz to reach that 4.7 or 4.8!

AJ.
Yeah - I saw that batch A967 was hitting 4.6 at <1.3V for many serial numbers... called microcenter (of all places) and they had one.. only one. Got lucky, it does 4.8@1.376V using offset OC, idles at 0.864V. usually run 4.74 @ 1.328V, 46x103.1 since the ram i have likes 2200MHz.
And, you can see/feel the difference between 4.2 or 4.5 and 4.8GHz.

I usually run 24/7 @ 4.6. Really there isn't any point in running 4.8 24/7. If benching yes. but for web browsing, gaming, mundane tasks, I'd rather save that juice for something worth it. 4.5 seems to be the average with these chips. I wish it clocked higher, but at 4.8-4.9 you're looking at a 3930K smoking at 5.1-5.2 with a heck of a lot less volts and consistently better ram speeds. We've just reached a plateau until the next big break. Unfortunately, if the trend follows, Haswell-E will not be it either. Maybe too early to speculate. but I wasn't dazzled into a 4770K over a 3770K.

You've got the 4960X with a larger cache. I think you're going to be alright. Lol. ??? Maybe you misunderstood. 4930/60 is definately a better choice at 4.8-4.9. Was the performance gap between your 3930 at 5.2 and 4930/60 at 4.9 significant or equal?

They were much more robust when it came to overvolting that's for sure. Shame that Ivy-E doesn't scale the same. We'd be looking at a monster for sure! Just think, a 4930/60 at 5.2 thumb.gif
