OK so I got the x79 deluxe and started building yesterday. CPU led is red, reset green, and it won't post. No error code on board no beeps no nothing.

Pulled everything out and redoing from basically scratch. Please post frown.gif

Take a step back and go through assembly the steps again. Cpu in socket correctly, ram seated correctly, all power connectors plugged in, ect., ect. Wouldn't be the first time something was overlooked. Just check everything. Hopefully you still have it out of the case and haven't skipped the bench test.

Okay at some point resetting the CMOS just worked and it'll post.

GPU went crazy and decided it needs more power than a nuclear reactor so that's a thing.

Now I'm struggling with the bios. It registers the RAM as 1333 when I have 1866. If I manually set it to 1866 it freaks out and on booting just continuously restarts. Have to reset the CMOS when it does that.

Edit: ignoring that for now. I installed win7 (under 20 minutes which is amazing) and I'll focus on bios after I have drivers up-to-date. Fun for tomorrow.

Also, first time booting windows with an SSD. I wasn't wowed. I didn't even notice the boot process. Its like it just wasn't there and it didn't even phase me. It wasn't until a couple minutes later that I realized how nonexistent the process was.

Then I was very impressed.

All ram defaults to 1333 when you install it, 1333 is the industry standard "common speed" that works in all platforms. You have to manually (or XMP) set the speed, timings, AND voltage per the distributor's rated spec listed on your memory kit.

Probably because I didn't update the voltage/timings it had issues. I better start getting cozy with the bios, going to be getting friendly with it when I start overclocking.
