That Intel white paper document is 116 pages long so it's going to take me awhile to get through it.

lol No, you don't read the whole thing you just need the voltages table. The other stuff talks about how the land grid is pinned out and stuff like that. You can read it but it isn't going to shed any hidden light on overclocking. thumb.gif

I'm sure it's just a typo but it should be mhz, not ghz. smile.gif

I can save you the time: maximum safe vcore is 1.4v, tjmax is 90c. Just keep it below that and you're good.

I am pretty new to the whole overclocking scene, but could someone tell me if this is any decent at these voltages and if/what I could improve?

All I did really in the bios was change the multiplier to 42 at first, starting with a Vcore of 1.275, and kept going up one at a time, till I got to x45, then started reducing the Vcore ever so slightly which I set to 1.240 in the end and it has been booting fine and playing multiple games fine with no issues so far, so no stress testing as of yet. Temps seem to be around 35-42.

This is mighty fine, and if gaming is what you are going to do most of the time, don't waste to much time stress testing. You might be able to push it to 4.6-4.7 with 1.3 to 1.35v.
My first 4930K was doing 4.6Ghz@1.4v, it's replacement does 4.5Ghz@1.4v (and 4.6Ghz@1.48v). til I got that binned 4930K that do 4.8Ghz@1.4v (4.7Ghz@.1.33v) rock stable - and can bench 4.8@1.32v up to 6.2@.1.76v on cold -

Hello Ivy Bridge-E owners!

Do any of you guys use folding@home on you cpu? If so would you be interested in joining my team the Brass Bottom Boys in the OCN folding@home team competition?

thanks

Thought I'd share some cpu score results of my recently acquired 1680 V2 which is an unlocked IVY-E 8 core Xeon in case some of you didn't know:

4960x or another 4930k that's the question.. ?

Wich should I go with in terms of % chans of getting a chip that'll do 4.6 or higher at 1.4v or lower?

Anything is better than my current 4930k which refuses to be stable at 4.6 GHz and needs 1.42v just for 4.5 GHz ( yes I know some of you got even worse results.. and yes I know the 2011-3 is out with it's 8 core 5960x )
But I'm not looking for a trade up until DDR4 is significantly better than DDR3 and Asus comes out with a RVBE or Intel comes with a 10 or 12 core Extreme soooo..

4930k or 4960x?

Doesn't matter!
Both are have the same overclocking capability, you can win or lose the silicon lottery smile.gif
And in my opinion all Ivy-E chips over 4.5GHz is winning the lottery biggrin.gif
