I do think it is the MB bios... we need an improved one from Asus, but as you know with key engineers leaving it may be quite some time.

btw, 4.9 @ 1.475, 1.205 with 2400 ram @ 1.65 (10-12-11-33-183-1T) is holding up for me so far, temps <75C... thru some brutal benching and stability testing. I'm probably killing this chip with that vcore. worriedsmiley.gif
Second time having to reinstall windows after trying for 4.9-5.0ghz. I tried loading second bios and resetting, but to no avail. Just as you said everything slowed down. Windows and programs loading just slowed to a crawl. This bios is extremely finnicky. Luckily I have a second ssd and am going to keep one for benching and one for reg. 24/7 use. Just don't get it. 4.8@ 1.4v, should be able to get 4.9 - 5.1 stable. I guess I'm going to have to give all auto a try and see what happens. The fact that I'm corrupting my os, makes me thing that chipset isn't getting enough voltage?

what made you think you corrupted the OS? did "sfc /scannow" show an "integrity violation"? I've 124'd this OS so many times it should be scrambled! FDor sure, this initial release bios is very "fragile".

so just for fyi - this chip holds 47 @ +40/+68mV offset, 1.65 dramV all else on auto except memory phase@ "optimized". p95 for >6h and all sorts of stability tests since this is my 24/7 setting. Max load vcore with this is 1.392V. Ram is a 2133 8-10-10-28-160-1T. Max temp on any core reached 68C.

48x offset with the same ram settings needs +50/+100 mV (offset/additional turbo) all other settings the same. p95 load is 1.424-1.45V) Max vcore spike (always during windows loading) is ~ +10mV.

49x is at fixed vcore of 1.475set (actual is 1.488V, load is 1.504V!)) vccsa @ 1.205, dramV@1.65, 2400: 9-11-11-31-193-1T. Best I can do that's stable (and reasonable). I still can't get my gskill 2666 ram to even post at 2666!~! mad.gif

It was taking over 2 minutes to load start up programs and after running Win start up repair, couldn't fix. Fortunately I have 2 SSD's and Win7 Ult. Loaded on both for this mobo.

My settings for my 24/7 4.8ghz @ 1.408 (actual under load) that are manuallly set( not on auto) It's basically a lot of the same settings I use on my MVE 3770k. ( 4.8 @ 1.413 under load)
It seems I'm missing something critical to getting past that 4.8 hump.

PLL OV - Enabled
EPU Power - Disabled
Tweak - Enabled
Offset - . +160 (1.408 under load)
PCI-E Spread - Disabled
CPU Spread - Disabled
BCLK Recovery - Disabled

CPU LLC - Ultra
CPU Voltage Freq. - Manual
CPU Fixed Freq. - 350
CPU Current Capability - 180%

Intel Virtual Tech - Disabled
C1E - Enabled
C3 - Disabled
C6 - Disabled
Package - No Limit

Dram Voltage is on auto, but usually reads 1.68v
VCCSA is on auto, but reads 1.175v

I'm stable with these settings, but when I switch over to manual voltage and try for 4.9 , I can boot into windows no problem, but cannot even complete Cinebench R15 or 11.5

I'm going to try leaving everything on auto next time I try for a higher bench overclock. I've tried using some of the other settings that have been suggested, but haven't seen any noticable difference.

CPU Current Capability - 140%
Power Phase - Extreme

4750 ...that's still similar to a 5 GHz SB-E ! thumb.gif Two quick questions : 57c Temps (air-cooled ?) ...and why no quad-channel memory, one of the advantages of X79 ?
***...you just called out 2 ram modules are not showing up!!!!!

I need to go see what that is all about. Thank you.

Im water cooled. I have 4 x XSPC EX480s + 1 EX240 running with Triebwerk Fans and two pumps.
that is what you get when you are excited... 2 ram modules not seated properly.... <--rookie mistake

I can't believe i missed that. +Rep for you sir.

http://valid.canardpc.com/6jrpqw

Heheheee 4.9 run at 1.350 strangely enough cpu-z reports 1.360 anyway I don't think 5ghz is out of the question but going to keep it at 4.8 for 24\7 biggrin.gif
