I need advice for a partial upgrade...(cpu/mb)

here is my current set up

http://www.overclock.net/lists/display/view/id/4197968

Core2Duo 3.16 OC'd 3.8
8 gb ram
ASUS P5Q Pro
610w power suppy
3 HDs
etc...

I would like to just upgrade the MB and CPU, but.. i think i need to replace the ram as well, correct? I can build it (built my current one) but i just dont know what goes with what...

I would like an i5.

I have always usef ASUS mb's since.... since forever lol but im not set on that.

dont want to spend a lot (or i would be replacing all of it lol)

those are my "requirements" lol i5 and not too much $$ biggrin.gif

so any suggestions/advice would be great.

THANK YOU!

You will also have to replace the RAM because it is DDR2. Do you plan on overclocking? I'd suggest either a 3570k or a 4670k. If you plan on overclocking the 3570k would be easier to work with because Haswell is quite a learning experience for OCing.

The 3570k would require a z77 motherboard and the 4670k would require a z87 board. If you never plan to overclock, the your processor will be cheaper and so will the motherboard.

What is your budget? That should be your main deciding factor as to what you choose.

no plans at this time to overclock (maybe down the road but i think the performance boost will be enough smile.gif )

ok so z77 (im assuming its cheaper)

is $400 enough to work with? (of course cheaper is better but too cheap and the stuff will suck lol)

Thanks!

if you never plan to overclock you could go with a 3570 that saves you 10 bucks.
