Im curriouse about the same thing. I just ordered two r9 280x's for crossfire to replace my aging matrix 580's. My gtx580's with only 1.5gb of vram ran my tripple monitor set up with no issues. BF3 ran great at that res and with flawlesswidscreen i ran all the call of dutys and a few other games across my three screens. The screens i used were some cheap fujitsu 21.5inch 1920x1080p monitors i found here at a local shop in kuwait just to see if i liked the surround gaming set up. To get back on topic though, considering my old 580's rand surround pretty well im thinking the r9 280x's will be even better, and considering these are just rebranded 7970's with a few minor tweaks we should see some pretty good fps even across tripple monitors in eyefinity. For the price though i may even pick up a third r9 280x to go trifire and see what kind of performance jump i get. I did read in some forums that going with a third card doesnt always yeild better results and in some cases actualy hurt fps. As soon as newegg finaly gets here i will drop them in and take them for a test drive see what what, and i will post what i find with the tests in here.Maybe it will help. In honesty if your looking at the 7970's not sure if you already bought them or not take a look at the r9 280x compared to the ebay prices on uses 7970's you can get a brand new r9 280x, wich is a rebranded 7970 ghz edition, and you get all the new bells and whistles.
