[Build Log] "Divine"

HI EVERYONE!
I've been here for a couple of months and decided to do a PC rebuild. rolleyes.gif

This is my current system and I'm sick & tired of how messed up it looks biggrin.gif (That's why the nickname "Kraken")

When I purchased ths rig a year ago, I had no clue what was I doing as this was my first build ever. Then I grew in knowledge and have been upgrading this rig ever since. Now it's time to sort everything out smile.gif

My build goal will be to achieve top cable management efficiency, highly asthetic looks and all that - ON BUDGET. 2cents.gif

Yes - I'm a university student, I live in a crappy apartment and I'm terribly on a budget side, so, if you expect this to be one of those builds with mountains of new hardware boxes - NO, it will not wink.gif

SO. If you haven't clicked away, let me introduce with the chaos, that has nested itself inside my case

I use 2 different tubing types, my radiator is just STANDING ON DESK, cables are stuffed inside just enough to close the side panel biggrin.gif Grey plastic sleeving is the only thing that prevents half of those wires from tangling.
As you can see, I've stuffed 2 ccl lamps in there too. I knew I'll do this kind of rebuild, so I purchased them a little while ago and just squeezed them there for no actual reason biggrin.gif

NOW, my plan smile.gif

This rebuild will consist of these phases:
  • Case modification
  • Hardware modification
  • New part fabrication
  • Cable & tubing management
  • Misc

Cooler Master K350 modification
  • Get rid of all the 3,5" drive bays, except for the top one, which holds the fan controller. This will free a lot of space for cable/tubing management, pump and tidier looks
  • Modify the side panel, making the window much bigger
  • Cut the case top for tubing management

Hardware modification
  • Repaint hardware parts, that does not match the main rig scheme

New part fabrication
  • Make a custom radiator shroud
  • Make a motherboard "shield" to tidy things up, leaving only the main components exposed

Cable & tubing management
  • Install theme-sleeved cables
  • Install theme-adjusted tubing

Misc
  • CLL installation
  • Custom scheme adjusted fan installation

____________________________________________
That's about it, but I can almost guarantee, that new entries will be appended to this list smile.gif
And one more thing - time to complete this rebuild will be quite long because I order majority of things over internet and it takes time to arrive (average of 2 weeks).

Well, LETS GET THIS THING STARTED! wheee.gif

Time for the first update smile.gif
Received my new mobo today, I am very impressed, because this is a MAJOR improvement over my last mobo smile.gif

I chose MSI 990FXA-GD65 over other boards, because of these factors:
  • CHIPSET 760G is ancient, compared to 990FX, plus, thanks to 990FX I now can hook up 2 videocards, both running on x16
  • It has 8+2 POWER PHASE, instead of 4+1 on my old board, which will really help with overclocking & power management
  • It managed to be a good BUDGET CHOICE - 150$ (delivery incl.)

And it has few nice bundled items too smile.gif
  • 4 angled SATA cables
  • External USB ports
  • *****load of manuals and guides + Drivers CD
  • (of course) a backplate
  • Adapters for connecting front panel buttons & LED's, audio & bunch other stuff

I've started to model a shield for this and it's going to be awesome, stay tuned smile.gif

Finally got some time in saturday to push forward my rebuild at least a tiny bit smile.gif
So I got a 1m x 0.5m polystyrol sheet to make a mobo shield (and maybe a case window) from.

Also I've made some rough sketches of how the shield could look, of how many parts should I make it and other stuff I might consider smile.gif
This was a fast and lazy one, but I plan to show off some ready shield parts next time smile.gif
