(AMD) AMD's Revolutionary Mantle Graphics API Adopted by Industry Leading Game Developers Cloud Imperium, Eidos-Montreal and Oxide - Page 28

Basically you get butter smooth gameplay (as with a locked 60fps vsync)with zero introduced lag.

Your comparing apples to bannanas.

G sync has nothing to do with mantle. Mantle is a simplified process of the API from DX to the final fps you see. THat is how it improves performance in games that are patched for it

"Real numbers regarding Mantle will be published at the AMD Developer Summit running November 11-13 in San Jose. I will say that we are not undertaking such a mammoth effort to yield 3-4% performance--that would be a waste of time. "
-AMD

Also someone asked this:

What was the influence to do something like Mantle when we have seen other projects like it "GLIDE" fail? What do you think will make your solution better or more enduring? Especially since the console market didn't want it?

"Game developers requested Mantle themselves. That's the key difference. The industry told us they want it... Johan from DICE sat across the table from Matt Skynner, the GM of our graphics business, and explained how he wanted a close-to-metal graphics API. Matt said "we can do that," and the rest was history. Other devs are very excited when they learn about what Mantle is capable of, and how Mantle can help them bring their game to life on the PC." - AMD
+1, which is why I already said since Sept, Mantle will bring no small amount of Performance gain. I expect to have a realistic number like at least a minimum 15-20% extra fps. That will put 290x ridicule GK110 in supported titles. thumb.gif

If mantle is a huge sucess, Nvidia might wanna develop a wrapper to support this, or may be design their GPU(Vorta) around GCN architechture

Better not speak when you have no idea about the technology.

Mantle will give absolutely nothing if you don't work hard on individual hardware components (something immensely easier on consoles, PCs are open platforms, much harder to have the resources to support them properly on a low level, even different VRAM speed may matter) most likely, and BF4 is not a sample of note since it has a promotional deal with AMD, it already appears to favor them, imagine what happens when they have the pressure to prove "mantle is glorious".

In any case, you don't know.

It's laughable how some people here take AMD's promotional statements as facts. They are promotional statements. They are going to sound impressive, were you born yesterday, what did you expect?

Secondly, I've dug into this keyboard saying it, but "general" APIs are already hardware-specific when the manufacturers or/and the commitee agree they can all support the features, that explains how OpenGL for example has already a tesselation stage with a real hardware parallel on the GPUs themselves.

So before going on the podium and declaring yourselves experts, or that "NVIDIA should have support for hardware-specific features from AMD", stop ridiculing yourselves and realize there is already a platform for manufacturers to have common hardware-specific features, and they have already used it.

Mantle itself does not require Origin, its the first game to support it that does require Origin and that game is BF4.

To me Mantel's performance in the real world and not in AMD's upcoming conference alongside the quality of non reference coolers will be the deciding factor in whether i get a 780 Ti or a 290/X.

Does BF4 favour AMD? I was under the impression it was terribly optimized and prone to crashes all round biggrin.gif

I bought it last Friday and am completely incapable of playing certain maps due to netcode issues and audio bugs. Even on the maps that do work I still experience frequent client crashes, texture tearing and general lag.
