We'll see who else will be on board not long from now, in a few days when they talk about Mantle.
Because it requires more work.
But at the same time, Dev studios that were pushing for this to come to fruition will implement it right away, and that's one of the reasons I think it wouldn't matter all that much for devs to have more APIs to program to, if NVIDIA releases a low level API tomorrow, most of them would have no problem with it (the ones pushing for Mantle) because this is what they wanted in the 1st place, we gotta make no mistake that for example, Johan Andersson from DICE didn't knock on NVIDIA's door asking for a low level API from them right from the start.

Maybe BF4 is a special case and was made specially to just that...or else won't be using much of Mantle. However, you can't just apply a patch and make a Direct X game an OpenGL game.
You have to at least recompile. This might also be another barrier to Mantle. It is probably going to require its own install files and make your game file that much larger. Probably more of a problem for retail disks, but I can see it adding a few GB to a download too.
It will most likely be a separate build/client, just like the x64 one.
With the engine itself getting updated will all of the Mantle stuff in the background. And the option to turn on would be in game (most likely requiring a client restart), at least that what repi mentioned on his twitter, that it would be a toggle switch in game.Edited by SlackerITGuy - 11/11/13 at 9:20am
