You say we know nothing of its capabilities, but you are comfortable making all of these assumptions? We don't even know how long its been in development, right?
I have no doubt we will see fps gains...I am more worried about the features that DirectX and OpenGL have in them that directly effect image quality. You could take a demanding DX11 game and turn off half of the features in DirectX to get some nice performance gains...but at what cost to image quality? Plus Mantle will not be a true "low level API"...a lower level API is probably more correct. It will still have to be compatible with the rest of the system that will vary greatly from machine to machine. It will not be like an API in a gaming console where every single specification of all hardware is a constant, though it has often been in the same sentence as the consoles' APIs. I don't think people should hope for more than 10%, though I will happily be wrong.
I am pretty sure there was a statement that said they had been working on Mantle for two years...or perhaps that was when the guy from Dice approached AMD on it. Regardless...it hasn't been in development long and as far as the world knows it has not seen any real testing yet.

I know I certainly cannot. Not when they are supposedly so close to actually releasing Mantle to the world in BF4. At this stage it should all be extremely documented and at least have had initial testing done. They have to have information that they could let people have, but they are hiding it. I am not even expecting anything useful to come out of their little convention. That really isn't a venue to release data to the public. If the BF4 update happens as planned...we probably won't see anything till that happens. They are just going to let the hype fire grow out of control.
Though I've been burned by AMD in the past with them not releasing information and letting the hype fire grow. Once upon a time there was a rumor called "Reverse HT" that spread across the Internet like wild fire. AMD let it go on for months before killing it. I was quite mad at my self for falling for it and ever since that I only care about information...official released information...and so far we have none and even AMD themselves have been playing the part of the blinded fanboy saying "It will be awesome!" and give no reason why. I just do not like the vibe I am getting off of this at all. If this new API is going to be so great...release some info.Edited by Vagrant Storm - 11/12/13 at 9:51am
