Removing CPU cooler...

Thread Starter
Hello guys, I`m removing my CPU cooler so that I can remove the MOBO battery, once I remove the cooler, will I need to apply new thermal paste, or can I just put the fan back down with the old paste?. Also the reason why I`m doing this to try to fix my computer, it starts up, but it does not show anything on the screen, so if anyone knows or have any tips on how to fix this, I would greatly appreciate it. smile.gif

You need new paste. You can use the old one in a pinch while you experiment.

Isn't the clear CMOS jumper or switch enough? Do you really have to remove the battery?

You really should use new paste. The old paste sure will still sorta work, better then nothing but it will be hotter then before you reseated the cooler.
