Reading QX6700 core temps on phase? - Page 2

So I have been told as well., In Probe start at 255 as a base and then you will be able to easily cal the die temp according to the diode...but I wold say that is still one notch above guessing. I too am just learning this phase stuff (Chilly1 -49C at the head) and I get 226-228 in Probe...i.e. -29 or thereabouts...which seems likely.

I have a feeling the only true reading would be with an actual probe--and obviously that would be in proximity but not on the die.

Would love to hear a better answer to this myself...

Ditto the NIX on popping off quick answers to which you have no real clue...the guy just stated he had been on XS looking for answers--so telling him to look on XS is kinda...

Thanx Crack and CyberDruid for the references about Probe counting backwards from 255. I had been told that back on XS during my quest there also.
The only problem I have with it, is that Probe ALWAYS reads 252 on my rig, load or idle, never changes, so I think it is just parroting the -4c that the bios ALWAYS reads, load or idle. Someone suggested that the problem was only being noted on quad cpus, so maybe the counting down bit works OK on a c2d, but not on the quad.
Thanx for the replies! If anybody comes across a new solution, please let me know!!
Does anybody on oc.net have any close enough ties to ASUS to get some answers from them? 'Cuz I am beginning to think the answer is tied into the bios and the quad together.
Thanx again.

on my 6400 it works fine, asus probe allways does that backwards thing, TAT allways gave me the 4c on both core nomatter what but other then that speedfan allways gave me close temps and the bios was allways agreed with speed fan so it must be a thing with your sensor or something,

BTW, good choice with going with the LS. The Mach II GT would probably not do as well, considering the LS is capable of removing much more heat in watts, albeit at a higher temperature than the GT.
thats not true, allthough they are both good at what they do the specifications for both are for 200w removal its jsut the machIIgt does it at lower temps then the vc ls,
