The 17" seems to have a better panel than the 14", but there are not enough (good) reviews for me to come to a solid conclusion. It has a 1080p TN panel.

Now regarding those 2:

If you are studying programming, you must want a UNIX OS no? You COULD install a linux distro, but I would probably recommend OSX, either machine will work for that.

WHY OSX?!

I have been pushing it this topic because you are learning, and if you chose a language to learn like Ruby or full on RoR, you will have a hard time in class when 99% of them have OSX. Some will have Linux(Ubuntu), and a few will use Windows, but most will use OSX.

Next, you want this laptop to last all through college? Go Apple. Razr is a ****ty company imho. I only recommend them because you may be able to save a few hundred to get the same machine (and I have heard of OSX capability). You're Apple computer should have a 2+ year warranty through Apple (truly one of the best warranties in the industry, I know from experience with iPods.) Then after that it should just work for another 4 or so as long as you keep good care of it. I still have old plastic Macbooks my medical-professional aunt has handed me down.

If you want to game, get a $3000 Mac with a nice Nvidia 6xxm and install Windows in Boot Camp, and then if you want make a small Linux partition for emergencies or for school projects.

AND Apple has the option for onboard SSD correct? And the Razr may only seat 1 HDD (Most likely 2 though, especially the 17"). The SSD size / cost could be make it or break it. I personally find having 2x 2.5" HDD seats very helpful.

I have one semester to go, so I'm almost done ... So ill be doing some mild programming on my last semester.. i did use linux over my entire college path but want a bit of a change

Still not sure what to do... but i kinda got it down to 2 options

The 14" blade... just not sure how it performs on newer games, saw a video on youtube of the blade 14 running an external monitor 1080p playing bf4 on ultra and he was getting around 40fps

and the rMBP 15

thinking about replacing both my desktop and my current laptop.

If I had to choose between the two, I would get the rMBP 15 despite my anti-Apple bias.

My reasoning is this: the 14" blade has too many potential pitfalls with its display. A laptop display can make or break the overall computing experience on a laptop and Apple understands this basic fact. I would not be willing to gamble on the quality of the display panel, especially not when you know what quality to expect with an Apple retina display.

Plus, I could honestly care less about the faster response times of TN panels. IPS FTW.

BTW, I see that you own two 2410 monitors. Obviously display quality means something to you otherwise you would not have invested in such quality monitors in the first place.

I do love the screens on those rMBP and the touchpad is out if this world =)

Also if i do get the blade i can always use an external monitor (maybe IPS =)) at home, and on the go just play with its display...

Not sure

Okay, there is one laptop that I think you should consider.
It is the Malibal's laptop.

http://www.malibal.com/boutique/pc/configurePrd.asp?idProduct=595

It use an actual desktop CPU and mobile GPU.
It is quite heavy and use ton of power, so I hope you don't mind about it.
It is quite pricey I would say, but the customization is all up to you.
