wow things changed since i last id this, if im right, intel used to do 6?

so which series are conroe and whats some good ram for it?

also, what would be the best gfx card to put in there(dont forget about the budget)

The Conroes are offically called Core 2 Duos and their model numbers start with an e in the front. Example: e6300. Lemme look on NCIX and find some stuff for you.

Here's the e6400 for 290 CAD at tigerdirect. It was cheaper than NCIX and it comes with a free game!

I'd get an X1950Pro or 7950GT for the time being. The 8800s cost a ton in canada!

Here's some good RAM. It uses the Micron D9GMH chips.

alright this is what ive decided so far

CPU- E6400 (268$)
MOBO- Asus P5B wifi (250$)
PSU- Ultra X2 550 watts (107$)
CASE- Thermaltake Armor (130$)
DVD Burner- Pioneer d-111 (48$)
HDD- Seagate 320 16mb (125$)
GFX Card- Diamond Radeon X1950 pro 512 mb (343$)

the ram you suggester is kinda expensive, i need 2 gbs, some good ram but 400$ is kind of alot...

I would recomend you stay away from the Ultra PSU. I have heard very bad things about them. I would recomend the Sunbeam NUUO 550w. I have used NUUO PSU's in my last three builds and have had good luck with them. They are also quite cheep for the quality you get.

Also, just to clear somthing up: All Core 2 Duo CPUs are NOT Conroes! The E6600 and E6700 are Conroe core CPUs, and the E6300 and E6400 are Allendale CPUs. The diferance between the two cores is that the Allendale has 2MB shared L2 cache while the Conroe has 4MB shared L2 cache. Just thought I would clear that up
