Korean monitor samsung or lg ?

Hey guys been trying to get a better idea what monitor to get between the samsung panel or lg

Samsung

Panel: PLS by Samsung
- Brightness: 300cd/m2
- Response Time: 8ms
- Static Contrast Ratio: 1,000:1
- Viewing Angle: 178˚/178˚
- Color Support: 16.7M

The pros about the samsung is that it can be overclocked beyond 60hz
The cons 8ms and brightness not on par with lg.

- Panel: AH-IPS by LG
- Brightness: 420cd/m2
- Response Time: 6ms
- Static Contrast Ratio: 1,000:1
- Viewing Angle: 178˚/178˚
- Color Support: 16.7M

This will be used for gaming and everyday pc task. Not sure what will benefit me the most hz or .2ms faster

You didn't post Resolution biggrin.gif

From what I have heard about monitors, you will not benefit from 120mhz monitor unless you can achieve >60 fps @ resolution. (Correct me if I'm wrong)

That being said, I think the more important factors to most people are color and response time. Personally I am picking up a second Asus monitor because they have great price and great color. They also have 2ms response time, but hard to say if that makes a difference compared to 6/8ms.

Based on the 2 you posted I would pick the LG. I have heard great things about IPS monitors, and I assume you want the brightness since you mentioned it yourself.

Do you notice any screen tearing when you reach >60fps? Are you always playing at >60fps? If No to both of these questions, then I don't think the Samsung will have any benefits over the LG (Besides branding tongue.gif)

sorry Resolution: 2560x1440 those standard 27inch koreans

Currently using a led 1080p tv. There all kinds of tearing but thats normal for this cheap monitor. I have a 7950 and i can push most games past 60fps but is it needed unsure right now.

7950 should destroy most games even at 1440 I would imagine. I personally am picking up my 7950s next week, and cannot wait to see them in action. I hope I can save up for a nice 1440 IPS monitor as well xD

I don't know too much about the Korean IPS game, I've heard amazing things though, and if the price is right I would try it.

If you only have a single 7950, and are playing at 1440, then I do not think more than 60hz is necessary. I think it would be helpful for screen tearing issues, and in games like CS:GO you will undoubtedly get smoother gameplay (I'm sure you bang out at least 80+ fps in a game like that)

P.S. Both Asus monitors I have (second one I'm picking up tomorrow) have 2ms response times. I heard response times are mostly meaningless, but if that is false -- you can do way better than 6/8ms for a reasonable price.

I'm also no monitor expert, I wouldn't base your purchase off my response unless the technical information I gave is confirmed by someone who considers them self a monitor expert.

300$ for a brand new 27in @ 1440p sounds like about as good as a deal as you can ask for.
