[Various] Asus Rampage IV Extreme Black Edition reviews - Page 2

There are som x79 boards that claim x16/x16/x16/x16 but they need a plx chip to do so. I heard that it's actually better to have a direct connection to the cpu at x8 than x16 that uses a plx chip. So x16/x8/x8/x8 is the best this board could do natively which is the best because it does not introduce the latency of a plx chip. I would much rather have this board at x16/x8/x8/x8 than the asrock that does x16/x16/x16/x16. It's especially awesome when running 2 cards on this board because they both run at pcie 3.0 x16/x16.

It's the culmination of the x79 chipset. Thus I purchased one for my evolution into lga2011. Made no sense to my brain to buy an old board when this was only a month or two out. Now it's down to the days.

This board has no PLX PEX 8747, thus is limited to 40 lanes... The thing that doesn't make any sense to me is why they would allow for 16x8x16x... Seem's like a marketing gimmick more than anything since the gpu's hooked up to the 16x slots would be limited by the 8x slot.

Some test's, though limited have shown that "plx switching" @ 16x16x16x16x is beneficial when pushing 3+ gpu's in EXTREME resolutions.

the PLXPEX chip's don't actually allow for more lanes, it allows for switching.

And here we have yet another review from http://www.kitguru.net/components/motherboard/luke-hill/asus-rampage-iv-black-edition-x79-motherboard-review/
5 stars brownosing, but he mentioned 30 second boot up time, and the heatsink/GFX card clearance.

So far, it's the same number of reviews on the first day after NDA was lifted as when NDA was in effect.
