Ahh. Well... I have to say that I don't prefer any, honestly. I use what I can put up with at the time.
I bought a DeathAdder 3.5G and DeathAdder 3.5G BE. I used it for CS 1.6 until I felt there had to be something better out there. I didn't like the top right corner, scroll wheel or the switches. The LOD made me angry often. The coating made me angry. However, I kept the DeathAdder because it worked well for me using 450/900 CPI and 500Hz. It was for my low resolution, no raw input gaming.
I used the EC1/2 for awhile to replace my DeathAdder 3.5G. The EC1 was to wide for me, so I got rid of it. I kept the EC2 because I can lift it better than the EC1 and the DeathAdder BE. I used the EC2 for Global Offensive for a little while, but I hate it for playing CS 1.6. It's a mouse that is okay with some games and very bad for others. I cannot say it is better than the DeathAdder 3.5G.
I used the Zowie AM a lot because it is sort of similar (in my hand) to the Diamondback. It was made by the same people. Currently I have it on my desk but I am not using it right now. I prefer it over the EC for most FPS games because of how I can use the switches. With the white AM I have no issues lifting it. I bought it because I thought it would bring back those early days of playing with the Intellimouse Optical. It isn't the same as an Intellimouse.
I thought the AM could be improved on, so I bought the FK. This is the mouse I am using right this moment. I don't like the main switches, shape, size or the coating. It has a flaw that stops me from ever putting away the AM. It's basically a poor attempt at curing the complaints people had about the AM's shape. I put the AM PCB inside and added a bunch of tape to the mouse so I can use it with less frustration.
I switch between the AM, FK and EC these days. I use them with raw input, 2300 CPI and 1000Hz. I use the 2300 setting because it is the only native setting. If I am not using raw input, or I am playing a game that cannot go below 1 sensitivity, I will use the DeathAdder 3.5G.
I really liked the original (about 10 years old now) Diamondback. It has 1600 CPI, angle snapping and 125Hz polling rate. The shape of that mouse is what made me really like it. I like the height of the front (~19mm outside of the grooves) and the width. I think a taller front is better than mice like the AM, FK, Kana, Sensei and Kinzu. The combination of the front height and the 38mm apex made the shape very comfortable for my style. The shape and height from the middle to rear was very supportive for the palm. The separate button pieces gave more control and feedback than newer single piece designs. The 127mm length is fine for me. The scroll wheel is ~2mm more forward than the FK. The overall shape made using my style more natural. It isn't the best shape, but certain parts are just better than other mice. If you look at the FK and the Diamondback side by side, you can see they tried to bring that feel back. However, the FK doesn't deliver. Plus I never felt like the sensor was annoying like other mice -- the angle snapping wasn't an issue for me in most FPS games.Edited by popups - 11/7/13 at 9:56pm
