Well, it's pretty much as expected, given we already knew it was the full GK110, the clockspeeds and price.
The price premium, even if warranted to some extent, is exaggerated, but I'm sure they will only keep it that way as long as they can. Once third party cooled R9 290X's start selling and Mantle is available for BF4, which will act as a showcase for all other games based on Frostbite 3 and possibly the other engines also adopting it, then it will be round two.
Not to mention Nvidia has SLI scaling problems making their cards not perform according to the price premium they are asking. 4K performance, which came into the spotlight thanks to Nvidia is also not brilliant. It is due only to SLI scaling or also due to the 384-bit memory bus ?
Thus this isn't the end of the generation in terms of competition.
Also, an R9 290 with an Arctic Cooling Accelero Xtreme 3 at 7v basically makes for the best value, also in terms of future proofing with 4 GB of VRAM, an added bonus when using multiple cards.
