Audio Bitstreaming via Nvidia GPU to Receiver Not Working. Please Help.

Thread Starter

So... I recently had to reformat my OS disk and therefore lost my media player settings. I also can't seem to find the file of which versions I was using and their installers. I was able to listen to the bitstreamed audio from DTS, DTS-HD, TrueHD, DD, and DD+

in both Media Player Classic and VLC. By that I mean full DTS and surround adaptation. Right now the best I can get is PCM to light up on the receiver and output LPCM. As I said before I was able to have the DTS, DD, TrueHD, etc lights to come up on my receivers display. I've noticed a loss of depth  to the sound that I can only attribute to some loss of DTS and TrueHD processing. It's weird, it shouldn't sound this different.

I'm outputting the sound through the same exact driver I had installed before (Nvidia 314.22) to my receiver via the HDMI. The receiver as well as my GFX card are in my signature but I'll post them here for reference.

Receiver: Onkyo HT-R390

Graphics Card: EVGA Nvidia GTX 460 768MB

As I said I've tried setting them up myself but it's been a no go. Everytime I check TrueHD, etc in the audio configuration for MediaPlayer Classics codecs (any of them internal or external, FFDShow, LAV, etc) the receiver doesn't even act like it has a signal, even the PCM light goes off and no sound is outputted. Half the time VLC won't even detect the 5.1 and only displays stereo dispite it telling me there are 5.1 channels in the stream. I've tried setting the output module and adjusting codecs manually as well. I've also checked, and changed back from 5.1 surround to stereo and then back to 5.1 surround again in the windows sound options to see if that made any difference and tried several guides and google searches.

Ideas?

I figured this was the more appropriate of the two forums to post in as it's hooked up to my PC (as well as everything else)

I've tried a few more things but the best I've been able to get is still PCM.

I'm not really sure what your problem is without seeing your settings. Check out this guide, look at the LAV audio section.

I followed that guide and many like it, no dice. In fact right now I'm trying to play a Blu-Ray with my speakers setup to 5.1 and MPC and LAV configured as per guide and I'm able to set my receiver to Pro-Logic II which shouldn't be possible, since it would require the player (hence computer) to be sending a signal over only two channels or less instead of the 6 it's sending through the HDMI.  This is all very frustrating. I've even tried ticking the check box for Use DTS-HD Framing for all DTS types. Though it doesn't seem to matter as if I check any of the DTS setting in any of the LAV audio versions it seems to completely screw up the audio (as it it's not outputting any). I've reset my receiver and have successfully used it with my laptop's HDMI for passthrough (tried the same settings as my laptop on my Desktop to see if that fixed the problem as well)

Still having the issue. Followed a few more guides but still nada.

Here's some screenshots and pictures 4 (picture 1 with the ffdshow settings shows up the same icons on the receivers display) and 5 also have photos I took of what the receiver displayed with the settings from 4 and 5 checked. Doesn't seem to matter if I use FFDShow, LAV or even MPC's built in (the one that doesn't have a tray icon which is weird because it uses an internal LAV filter from the settings which I have the same ones there as in the external filter through K-Lite's Codec Configuration tool)

The Album for the screenshots and photos are here.
