Core i7 920 - Worth Upgrading? - Page 3

Just to toss this in...I have a i7 920 still laying around and also have a 4770k and 4930k....I can tell you that it greatly depends on what ur doing for instance...my i7 920 struggles on 1440p in battlefield 3/4 on 64p maps very badly....now with my 4770k not even overcklocked im getting around 15-20 fps higher on the 4470k vs the 920 for me this was a no brainer...and I can stlll sell my x58 setup for a couple bucks lol

point is that depeding on whart ur doing the 920 will hold you back esp on sli...imo

I have a 950 at 4.4 ghz right now, but may just consider upgrading with the next iteration chipset (x99)?

With regard to raw power itself it seems like I'm fine, but with extended functionality 1366 socket is starting to show its age IMO (USB 3, PCIE etc)

Also I have 3 580's in SLI OC'd so they are still destroying raw power, just that 1.5 g vRAM to rear its ugly head with games like BF4 @_@

Sadly, it wasn't until very recently that modern motherboards started matching or exceeding the features of 1366 boards, aside from USB/SATA/PCI-E 3.0 (which lets face it, not many people actually have a use for those things, and early implementation was more trouble than it was worth with mice plugged into usb3.0 ports acting wonky, etc).

One of the biggest reasons I chose to upgrade from a 920 to a 980x was simply because "upgrading" to any modern (at the time) board would mean tossing 4 of my hard drives or buying an ugly $400+ RAID card and having hideous cable management.
