Keep contract while switching phone without paying for termination fee? (Canada/Telus)

Anyone know if its possible to take the sim out of my iPhone 5, sell it, buy a nexus 5, and just throwing the sim in it while not changing the contract, ie. Telus will still assume Im using the iPhone 5?
I dont wanna wait another year until I can upgrade for free.
Thanks

Possible? I suppose. Legal? Doubt it. Not sure they use the same sim card size though so it may not be possible at all in the end because of that.

You would need a new from what I have read, the iPhone 5 uses a nano SIM while the Nexus 5 uses a micro SIM.

You should be able to call your provider and have them send a micro SIM out so you can use the Nexus 5 on your contract.

As Rangerscott said you can change your phone without affecting your contract in most countries.

chco, I'm with rogers and I can do that. I believe the only cases before that you couldn't do that is if it was switching from a blackberry to any other phone. It should work with no issues. You should be able to contact someone in customer service at telus and inform them though because of the IMEI with that iphone is probably tied to your account. It was just set in place recently here so that stolen phones don't get used elsewhere.

There are inexpensive SIM adapters to make your smaller SIM fit into other phones.

As long as you get the proper SIM card, they won't even know. I've done it already (Galaxy S2 to N4). I'll be doing it again when I get my N5 in a few weeks.

EDIT: I'm in Canada.
