New build, boots but no display

Hey

So everything is brand new. Specs are
I5 4670k
MSI z87 g45
MSI 770gtx
Corsair vengeance 1600 cas 10 version
Corsair cx750 PSU

That's the main stuff anyway.

I can hear it turning on and idle but I've tried every possible display option and still nothing.
Display I'm using definitely works as does the cable.

Any ideas ?

Sorry if the thread is in the wrong place !

When you say boot, does that mean you can get into the BIOS? Have you tried using the onboard video out to get into the BIOS and switch it to dedicated? Are all your cables snugly in their respective places?

Is everything plugged in completely.
It's seriously common, I started to rage one day then realized oh hey the gpu isn't plugged in duh.
Your board likely has some sort of diagnosis or status leds or a digital number readout. You'll have to check the manual.
I would try what jameyscott said. If you can use the onboard graphics its likely gpu related.

It sounds lke its booting but there's no display for me to get into the bios.

I've doubled checked every cable frown.gif

As its a new build id presume it would try to use onboard graphics first ? And I've tried I onboard VGA dvi and hdmi. Also tried HDMI and dvi on my 770.

There are no LEDs or a speaker to confirm any beeps. If i plug a speaker into the headphone jack would that still work to hear any beeps?

Would it make any difference that I'm trying to boot off an ssd ?

Should I try my 2tb hd instead?
There's nothing on either drive though.

So it boots when my graphics card isnt installed and it's using onboard. However as soon as I put my graphics card in I get no display.

It won't let me disable onboard graphics when there's nothing installed.

Please any help would be great

Do you have an old GPU lying around where you can test? Or test the 770 in another computer?

Would you believe it, after all this there was a dog hair stuck in the dvi adaptor. Pulled it out and it's now working !

Spose that's what happens when you have a labrador that won't stop liking his nose everywhere!

Thanks, rep to all

I've got the same problem with my cats. I'll be investing in a small, quiet air purifier to combat the dust and hair. You might want to look into doing the same! tongue.gif
