I'd get a quad just for additional longevity. For $40-50 more you don't have to replace the processor again as early down the road which would ultimately end up being more expensive than just getting a slightly higher tiered processor from the start.

It would be a worthwhile expense if it did not force compromises in other areas. I would suggest an ssd over the a10 upgradefor eexample, as that would be more noticeable for this end user.

Thanks for all the info guys. As for SSD, I have one for mine and it's great, but more space would be better. And simple is better, so I am not going to confuse anyone running SSD and HDD.

Again, thanks for this info, I am probably leaning towards an A6. And poll voting is leaning towards the AMD. Honestly, I just want to build something. After my first build I still want to add and change stuff so I am gonna try and get em to build one.

Throw the C: on SSD and D: on HDD and put all media storage folders on the HDD and you will be golden. The kids have no problems using my SSD & RAID HDD machine thumb.gif

One bargaining chip to tell your father is that all-in-one or pre-built setups also come with only 1 year warranty if you're lucky that has to be further paid $50~$100 for extended warranty. Whereas - buying new every part individually can have up to 3-5+ years warranty overall dropping the actual price point in the couple years term of ownership if anything goes. This is more of a peace of mind tactic than anything but it's one of the most powerful points compared to others buying all-in-ones/pre-built.

Add in that usually pre-built setups the warranty usually states you cannot even OPEN the case to remove dust or that voids warranty altogether and you have a rats nest of trouble waiting to happen. Couple in the fact that if something goes in the system with pre-built/all-in-one's that they risk losing all their data due to the OEM or other repair place wiping everything to a 'clean slate' the majority of the time.

If you use a SSD for the OS and programs do not forget to have windows install the user folder on D drive. My app data folder was filling up like crazy until I set this up.

There are a few guides that show how to do this while installing windows.

oh and set Hardrives to ACHI in bios or the ssd is slow.

If anyone cares, or would like to know. My old man got my mom the below. Got it for right around that price, maybe $200 less. It's going to be a Christmas present for her. We did unbox it, and check the screen to see if it was cracked. The thing looks amazing. Don't really understand the thinking behind it, but it sure is cool. Cost more than my computer... Thanks for all the tips and everything, I was leaning towards what you guys were pushin.

Thanks again,
