New High End Build $3000 budget (Already Ordered)

PARTS ALREADY ORDERED

UPDATED PARTS LIST BELOW

Hello OCN, it's about that time again for me to build a new gaming rig. I am by no means a hardware enthusiast so that's where you guys come in biggrin.gif I have been doing some research of my own and have some parts picked out but I do need help with some parts that I have no idea about.

Just a few things before I start
1) This will be for high end gaming and nothing else. I want to max everything with good FPS.
2) My budget is around $3000 but a few hundred over/under will be okay.
3) I am not experienced with overclocking but I do plan to do some more research and maybe OC my CPU/GPU down the road.
4) I have some parts I will be reusing from my current PC. a Samsung 830 SSD and an Asus VG236H 23" 1080p 120 Hz Monitor
5) Basically looking for the BEST parts I can get for around $3000. Again, a little over is okay.

I will put "???" next to parts that I don't have a clue about and don't know what makes them good.
So far my part list.

Case
http://www.corsair.com/en/pc-cases/graphite-series-pc-case/graphite-series-600t-silver-mid-tower-case.html
I have a dilemma with this. I am looking into this case ( Corsair 600T) but was wondering about the side window. I want to be able to see inside my case BUT this case doesn't have a side window fan. Will that be a big difference in temperature if my case just has a plain window? I know this case comes with a mesh grill to add fans but then I can't see the inside like I would like to. My other option is an Antec Nine Hundred Two V3. I used to have a 1st model Antec Nine Hundred and I did like the case.

GPU
I'm considering SLI GTX 780 Ti's. Please don't recommend me an R9 290x or turn this thread into an AMD vs Nvidia fanboy battle. I wan't to MAX BF4 at 1080p 120hz with over 100+ FPS. Before you shout "overkill" I 1) want this computer to last more than 2 years which is what my current one lasted me and 2) I may upgrade to a higer resolution in the future.

MOBO ???
I have no idea what's good. It must have a PCI slot for my wireless linksys router. Otherwise I will not have internet.

SSD
Reusing current Samsung 830 256GB

HDD ???
1TB is way too much for me. 500-600GB more than enough.

CPU ???
Was looking at the i7-4770k but I am not sure if this is what my build needs? Not too sure what CPU's out now are considered "top of the market."
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819116901

Heatsink ???

RAM ???
Again, not too sure what is currently good. Should I go with 16 GB? 2x8 GB sticks? or 4x4 GB sticks?
I read that it's better for you to run 4x4 GB of ram instead of 2x8 GB on LGA 2011 (not sure if it's true just what I read)

PSU ???
I'm at least looking for a modular PSU. That way I can use only the cables I need and for cleaner cable management.

CD/DVD Drive ???

OS
Currently using Win7. Should I upgrade to Win8? and why?

Mouse
Logitech G500s
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16826104857

Keyboard
Ducky Shine 3 Year of the Snake

If you have any other questions that I might have missed for you guys I will gladly answer. Thanks thumb.gif

for gaming you dont nedd a 4770k a 4670k would be the same but i have heard that Bf4 makes use of the 8 threads you get with the 4770k so i am not too sure

mobo a good one would be ASUS sabertooth or a UD3H

PSU - a good coolermaster V850 would be enough

HDD - just pick up a WD blue 500 gb or even 1 TB verion is pretty cheap

ram- 2 X 8gb ram @ 1866mhz wont hurt

Thanks for the quick response. Two questions
1) Should I just reuse my current HDD or is it too old? I feel like I've had this HDD forever. This is it http://www.overclock.net/products/western-digital-caviar-black-wd6401aals-640gb-7200-rpm-32mb-cache-sata-3-0gb-s-3-5-internal-hard-drive-bare-drive

2) Question about the ram speed. Is 1866 mhz the standard? What about 2400 mhz?

hdd's can die anytime

i have picked up a Hdd that died brand new so i cant answer but yes you can use that HDD forever if you wish to

about the ram 1600 is really standard now i suggest 1866 since you can bump the voltage to 1.65 and oc teh ram upto 2133 mhz ... has to be good quality ram

If you are into modest overclocking ~4.5ghz, ud3h will serve you well. For ram, try go for 2 sticks instead of 4. It helps with overclocking (easier to get it stable). RAM speed actually affects performance. Probably you wont see a noticeable difference but corsair tested higher ram speed and it gives better performance in bf4. For cpu, i think it might be a good time to invest in an i7 for the sake of hyperthreading. I can only see more games and softwares will probably be coded to utilise more cores. Case: i have a 600t myself with side window. You might want to stick with reference or blower type cards. Corsair 200mm that comes with the case is not really good. At least for me. But, my asus gtx 670 dcu2 can keep itself at 70c during valley. You wont be disappointed with the case. biggrin.gif

I edited my first post late but the MOBO MUST have a PCI slot because I use a wireless linksys card. Otherwise I won't have internet.

Yeah ud3h should be fine. You can run your card on both the pciex16 (which will then operate at x8 since u will sli them) and put your network card on the pciex1 slot.

Sorry for a dumb/captain obvious question but the UD3H has 2 PCI express3.0 x16 slots and has 1 PCI Express x16 slot.
1) I would SLI in both the 3.0 x16 slots correct?
2) what's the difference with the 3.0 x16 and the just x16 slot?

Its okay. We are here to help. Those 2 are the same. Both are pcie gen 3 slots. If you only use 1 slot of it, it will run at 16x. If you fill both the pcie 3 slots, both will run at 8x speed as the second slot shares the lane with the first slot.
PCIE 3.0 tend to be faster than 2.0...
Still you will run at 16x and 8x for the speed (Or dual 8x)
http://www.gigabyte.fr/products/product-page.aspx?pid=4481#sp
If you want dual 16x in 3.0, you will need to invest much more money into you motherboard. Might be worth to look into the speed lost between 8x and 16x so you can decide if the 100$+ mobo is worth it...
