Opteron wont overclock... in windows

Hey, i got a opteron 165 for Christmas... stepping CCBWE

Its in my sig PC; i've overclocked it to 2.4 (270x9)

when i boot, the first boot it wont go past post when i reset it works fine.

In the BIOS it says its running at 2.4

when in windows it says only at 1.81

i upped the voltage to 1.35 from 3.25

*** is going on...

on a side note, if i reset my mobo more then twice in a day the SATA channel turns off and i have to boot with the HD disconnected then connect it for next boot.

should i send the mobo back to newegg for a replacment?

well. dont get too upset but your stepping is the worst of the 165's. that might be the max for your cpu. also, make sure spread spectrum is disabled and cool n quiet is disabled in bios.

I don't think it's a big deal if it shows 1.81 in Windows. I'm not familiar with Optys but do they have that AMD PowerNow! technology? [Similiar to Intel's Speedstep? I think that's the name of it for AMD] Can that be the problem? Ignore me if I'm not helping...

download and install the newest chipset from asus
chipset version 6.65
http://support.asus.com/download/dow...I%20Deluxe
then install the latest bios v1805
use CPUz and Asus AI Booster to comfirm what your rig is actually operating at

check out your ram timings then, your sig shows 2 different kinds of ram
if you have 4 sticks remove 2 so your have 2 total that will run in dual channel (use your corsair sticks)

I am running a 165 in the same board use these settings
311Mhz at 1.3625vcore and 3x htt
My memory is set at 266 since im at 2.8Ghz, that runs the ram at 200 (DDR400) which is cpu/14
hope this helps, reply with any other questions

Did you make sure that you have the most updated BIOS for your mobo? Also, do you have the dual-core optimizer from AMD?

i think you need to disable "Cool 'n Quiet" in the BIOS, it automatically underclocks your CPU (via lowering the Multi and vCore) to make it run cooler
