Anyone Have Anything Positive to Say About Ghosts?

Thread Starter
I haven't played a COD game extensively since COD4:MW. I tried MW2 but didn't enjoy the kill streaks and such and took a break from the series. I played BF3 pretty extensively, but haven't had a twitch shooter for years.

Given that background, I wanted to play COD: Ghosts and was going to buy it for $48 from GMG, but then I hoped on the forums and haven't seen a single positive on the game.

I understand that no one goes on the internet to post about a game if they are enjoying it, but I was wondering if EVERYONE is having all these issues, or is it just a vocal minority?

Is ANYONE enjoying this game?

Issues I've read about:

1) Hackers ruin EVERY game
2) Crossfire doesn't work at all (a concern for me)
3) Graphics are terrible
4) Constant lag and FPS drops make it unplayable
5) Lack of dedicated servers makes it the worst game on the planet

Thanks

Lol well you have to take any PC enthusiast related forum topic on COD with a pound of salt. There are quite a few problems with the game at the moment, just like with the BF4 launch, both games are suffering from horrible launches.

I havent run into any hackers yet, but im sure they are out there. As far as crossfire goes, AMD just put out a new driver that mentions ghosts, read up on that, not sure if it fixed crossfire or not. Graphics aren't terrible if you set the video options correctly, they aren't BF4 quality but they are pretty good. The FPS drops seem to be pretty commonly reported hopefully they will get a patch out for that soon. Lack of dedi's hasn't affected me in anyway so far, sure its nice to have dedicated servers but i haven't noticed the world imploding or anything because of it.

Overall im enjoying the game, The map designs are really good, weapons seem to be fairly well balanced out of the gate, and overall its a pretty good COD. If you like previous COD's you should enjoy this one just as much, if COD is not your style than big surprise... you wont like this one.

Loved MW, but I played it so much I think I burnt out. But it has been 4 years since I touched a COD game. At least one person is having fun haha.

I haven't run into any hackers yet.

Lack of dedicated servers suck. I joined 3 separate games last night in which everyone had the same amount of lag. No framerate lag, but like teleportation lag. Whole game was SUPER choppy. On top of that, I've been rubber banded around corners so many times. I'll take 3-4 steps around a corner and die, and while I'm watching the kill cam, I haven't even gone around the corner.

Also I don't know why, but guns are stupid powerful in this game. It's almost like you're playing hardcore mode all the time. You can't really turn on someone in Ghosts. The juggernaut armor and maniac whatever is insanely OP. I shot this guy so many times in hardcore when he had juggernaut and he just ran straight through my full magazine and knifed me. In hardcore. Doesn't make sense.

The maps are much larger than previous COD games as well. Could or could not be a good thing, depending on your preference.

Me personally? I'm not playing it until they fix some things. The VRAM/system ram outrageous amount of usage problem needs to be addressed. Dedicated servers are a must.

I'm going back to Black Ops 2

You won't be able to play COD Ghosts multiplayer at all at any setting.

Unless you are OK with dips into the 30/40 fps range when looking at things that are at a distance and or being scoped in.

*Edit* just saw you are CFing... I don't know how the game plays with CF nor how vram is handled in CF.... but I know that with everything on the lowest settings and everything turned off, the game sometimes pulls about 500 more mb of vram than I have (1gb 5870). So I get huge FPS drops...

For me at least, BF4 has been less playable since launch than COD, and its had a week head start. In BF4 i get constant server disconnects, client crashes, and horrible network latency. In ghosts only real problem i had was mouse acceleration and changing a variable in a config file fixed that. Depending on your system it seems like either one of these games could be unplayable at launch. Thats why i said both are suffering from horrible launches.

BF4 launch is terrible by way of not being able to play a full match more than 60% of the time. I don't know what's worse, not being able to connect at all ala SimCity, or tasting the gameplay before the inevitable CTD.

As for CoD:Ghosts...it's actually a little difficult for me to actually recommend it in its current state. There are a few (maybe 2) maps that are simply too LARGE (oh my...me saying that about a CoD map...that's something) for the standard 6v6. I don't recall their names, but these maps definitely need at the very least ground war (9v9) player counts to make it playable with CoD's standard pacing. TTK is also much too fast; if the game feels balanced, it's because every gun has 1 second lethality, allowing for zero counterplay.

I will say that the game actually does NOT look like ass. It's actually quite nice looking. The common refrain that it doesn't look as good as BF4 will always remain, but frankly, if you crank those settings, it is the best looking Call of Duty I've seen yet. It actually left me relatively impressed.

HOWEVER, this comes at the cost of unacceptable performance. Even with my rig, which runs BF4 at a mix of high and ultra with nary a hiccup (when it's not crashing of course), I can't run this game smoothly at all. The textures are nice, but honestly, I don't see how they could possibly be loading more than 3GB of vram at 1920x1200, ESPECIALLY considering that this choppiness occurs no matter how much I changed the setting (including setting everything to normal, no AA/AF), it just doesn't perform. The only performance option that works is auto settings. Oddly enough, this is pretty much Multiplayer focused, as the single player runs relatively well when put mostly on extra with 2x MSAA.

TL:DR - It looks nice, but right now it's a polished turd.
