Raid 0 with SATA 3.0Gb/s vs 1 drive with SATA 6.0Gb/s

Hello,

I currently have a Samsung 840 Pro that I have my OS on, along with my browser, a few games, and some other things. For my storage of the rest of my games, music, documents, movies, etc I have 2x WD Black 640GB 32MB Cache SATA 3.0Gb/s in RAID 0.

I was wondering if yall think it wold be worth it to upgrade to a WD Black 2TB 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s drive to replace the RAID setup. Would I even notice a difference on a day to day basis?

My RAID setup is through the Intel ports on my motherboard.

Let me know if you need any more information.

Thanks ahead of time.

your raid is probably faster than the 2tb drive. Just becasue a drive has sata6 doesn;t mean it actually uses it to it;s limits. It wouldn't surprise me if the 2tb drive doesn't even saturte sata 3

That said, it will be less prone to failure and is larger than your current setup. It may be a good idea on that basis.

Mechanical drives can't saturate sata 2 let alone sata 3. Your raid array will be faster. The fastest sata 6 mechanical drive I've seen personally is my WD 10EZEZ and it technically doesn't saturate sata 2 max speeds.

Thanks for the info guys.

Will 32mb vs 64mb of cache make a difference?

yepYou could even buy a small SSD and set IT up as cache. That can speed things up a lot
