knowing its AMD its 8 cores 4 modules

so a quad core split up

the whole point is the only computers that a console is more powerful then these days are netbooks biggrin.gif the people who NEED higher system requirements are those who neglected to mention they are running 1600P or higher resolutions... yes you WILL need higher system requirements if you are playing the same game at 4k resolutions biggrin.gif consoles can barely drive 1080p... it can't PUSH 1080P to the limits no matter how you look at it.... most of the vid cards we run in our systems on OCN are already more powerful then the entire console system... besides, try to find a modern system that has less then 8gb of ram... the only one's you'll find are laptops no desktop come with less then 8gb these days.

new consoles = optimized APU systems. nothing more. it can't possibly compete with even current gen systems. forget how much PC's will decimate consoles 3 to 4 years down the road when the consoles are "mature". i wouldn't be surprised that you'd have tablets/phones that approach the power of a console before the current gen consoles are phased out biggrin.gif

It's eight physical cores which is why an FX-8000 is typically better than an i7 with it's four physical/eight logical cores in multi-threaded applications.

I'm excited for Kaveri and future APUs because console games will be ported to them far more easily and efficiently. I want quad-channel DDR4 to make up for the choked bandwidth system memory has for graphics, or alternatively the ability to use GDDRx as separately addressed but still shared RAM. However, saying that most of us beat a console is wrong, since most people don't have dual-Titans/290Xs/780Tis. Also, CPU cores are a lot different than GPU cores. If a FLOP were a FLOP, we'd all be running as many GPUs as possible with no CPUs, but GPUs specialize in parallel processing while CPUs are specialized for more complex calculations.

Well its good to know the rig I just built will reign supreme over consoles for years to come.

well... if you want to interpret it that way then i suppose you can say that the console has 8 gigs of ram and most of the vid cards we run today are between 2 to 6 gigs of ram.... i'm talking about power in relative terms, not absolute capability of doing the exact same thing. yes vid card BY ITSELF is useless biggrin.gif but that does not negate the raw computational power of its processor. if you want to, then we can look at computers as complicated "calculators". EVERYTHING a computer does has to do with calculation in 1 form or another. it's the nature of the machine.

if someone REALLY wanted to, i'm sure they can code an OS that would work purely on a GPU.... it wouldn't be very efficient, but it would work. and maybe we can port games to that GPU based OS.... but then again, we are pretty much just talking about the origins of consoles now aren't we? biggrin.gif wasn't consoles just a "computer" that specialize in graphics/games instead of productivity software?

So yes, in other words.

We are seeing the requirement increases already with COD Ghosts and BF4 and soon with other titles like Assassins Black Creed and Need for Speed Rivals. And these are generation transition titles, so expect requirements to increase even further come spring when the actual next gen games start appearing. I don't see it being a major jump over these fall releases though.

Of course all of this is only required if you are simply set on "maxing" visuals at 1080p or greater. And who knows what mantle will bring.
