best gpu before bottlenecking

Thread Starter
I have a 955be stock 3.2 and overclocked to 4.0 - 4.2

What do you think is the highest GPU I could run stock and with the overclock before I reach the bottleneck?

Thanks

it depends on the game, number of monitors, resolution (1080p 1440p, etc).

there is no correct answer.

I have 8320 CPU and GTX 760 * 2 SLI, and in some games the GPUs are maxed @ 1080p ultra settings, others the GPU only get used 50%. I been looking at these x-star and qnix 1440 monitors and if I get one of those my GPUs will get pushed a lot harder.

955be is a nice CPU, so you should just decide what your budget is.

I think that CPU would match up fine with new 290x or 780 TI if you are willing to spend the money.

On AMD side a 7870 is a good match for your chip. in my experience if you can reliably run it at 4.1-4.2then it can feed a 7950 @ 1165 which is equivalent to a ghz 7970 or r9 280x. I wouldn't get anything higher unless planning to upgrade cpu. but as stated already, it also depends on the game and how many threads it uses.

You would be fine with a 7970. Make sure you raise your CPU-NB speed for a substantial boost in performance too.

Cool thanks guys. I'll be looking at putting it under water hopefully (CPU) for fun and see what I can come up with. Good to know it can handle most cards
