To all FX-9370 or FX-9590 owners regarding power consumption...

Hi all,

Next week will have to make a decision whether to order a fx-8350 or fx-9370 together with a Asus Sabertooth 990fx R2.0.

I know idle power consumption of the fx-9370 is approx 73 watts and at load 321 watt approx depends on the hardware used...

But whats the typical power consumption when your just browsing the web, listen to some music and a couple of DL's in the back ground...? Im a supposed to think it will draw 220watt just to do some average things on my pc?

Can some one post the power draw for using your pc for average or typical power consumption ie browsing, dl's, music, and perhaps extracting files...?

Thanks in advance.

FX 9370 and FX 9590 to me just seems like a highly clocked 8350

i would personally grab the 8350 and oc it to 4.7
like my brother's 8350

The FX-9xxx series chips are higher binned, they'll have better chance of hitting the big 5.0ghz.

Mundane tasks such as web browsing, DL's, music, etc. will only pull a limited amount of power compared to true idle, so say around 100-125 watts. The 220 TDP is not reflective of true power consumption at all; rather it is just a guideline figure for heat dissipation. At full load, then you will see those sky high power consumption figures. IMO, unless you get the 9370 for a great price (< $220), I would just grab the 8350 and hope for the best in terms of OC potential.

Thanks for the replies,

Well the fx-8350 sells for 170 euro
the fx-9370 sells for 200 euro....30 euro more...

Im not into overclocking so il let everything @ stock I want my system for reliability, durability, stability. Hence the fx-9370 its already oc'd no screwing around with settings in bios. My greatest concerns are the vrm's temps even @ stock speeds and 1.5v default but think I have it covered by putting 2 fans on the vrm heatsink.

Is there anyone who can give a more accurate number in regards of power consumption ie idle, load, and measuring power consumption with just mundane tasks ie browse, music, dl's, extracting if its not to much to ask kindly post your findings here it would be greatly appreciated.
