The radeon is 499 EUR and the nvidias are 450-485 EUR

If noise is not an issue, the 290X is definitely the faster card for BF4 and in most games. Mantle will probably improve BF4's performance on the 290Xs as well. I would wait for non reference 290Xs to come out for lower temp and lower noise because the reference cooler is garbage.

If noise and temps arent the issue, the 290X will outperform a 780. There are no custom coolers out for the 290X so temps and noise are currently an issue (if you were to buy right at this exact moment)

If you plan on doing some volt modding/bios flashing and overclocking (from the increased volt modding) - try a 780. The 780 will also perform a lot quieter than a 290x because the reference cooler (when are ref coolers ever good?) is pretty loud at higher fan speeds.

If you are watercooling, try a 290x. Though im not sure if many 290x full waterblocks are out, there are plenty of 780 waterblocks since its been out longer than a 290x.

I think the only real contender versus a 290x is a 780Ti, a 780 may be able to outperform a 290x but you will need some really good liquid cooling full block and some volt modding in order to do so (assuming you dont have a golden 780 that can clock to 1350+mhz on stock voltage)

What aspects of a graphics card do you value the most?

noise
running temps
performance
aesthetics
the value add (games, features etc.)

Both are good cards, it's just a matter of picking what suits you better 2cents.gif

Theres a Gigabyte version of the 290x... should i grab it?. i dont care about noise, only performance and heat. my case is kinda ghetto after years of moving abuse and water damage so i run it with side panel open, the gigabyte version has better cooling or am i wrong?

AFAIK, all the 290X cards are reference designs currently, so there will be no difference between any 290X you choose to get. Best bet is to base your choice on warranty (I believe Gigabyte has a 3 year warranty, whereas the majority only have a 2 year warranty)

For BF4 , R9 290X is the better choice, MANTLE IS LOOMING ON THE HORIZON. next week Johan Andersson will finally provide details of Mantle at APU 2013 summit. next month Mantle will be available. already R9 290X is the faster card. with mantle it will get ugly for nvidia. biggrin.gif
