CPU bottleneck?

Thread Starter
Hi guys - in anticipation of bf4, rather than upgrading to a new card i decided to go for an xfire setup and go for a second 7970. Now the game is totally playable, however i must admit im a tad disappointed with the performance. I would have hoped for closer to 100fps, but at best i seem to be getting 60/70's. I fired up afterburner and noticed that my cards are only seeing anywhere from 50-70% usage yet my cpu is pretty much maxed out constantly. I have a i5 2500k with a light oc to 4.2ghz. Ive got a full wc loop and wondering if with a more aggressive cpu overclock id see a rise in performance?

ill be first to admit im a relative newcomer to overclocking, im not really in the know when it comes to tweaking games either, so im sure there are easier ways of squeezing more fps from the game simply by altering settings, however thats something ill look at later.

x2 7970 stock clocks
i5 2500k @ 4.2
asus p8z77 board
8gb crucial ram

Yep, held back by cpu bigtime

Look at your performance on 720p like med settings - use fraps benchmark and frafsbenchviewer to see frametimes, etc. Your performance on 1080p max will >always< be in best case scenario, equal to 720p results, but probably worse. If your FPS is at a certain mark on 720p you're entirely limited by CPU, and you can see the performance that your CPU has to offer
