Memory for Intel Core i7 4770?

Thread Starter
I would like to know what memory (I will go for either 16GB or 32GB, 2 x 8GB or 2 x 16GB) is recommended for this CPU (If you need my other hardware components I will write them as well)
What company, and what frequency and latency

I have no idea what is suitable so would like some advice, thank you.

Any RAM these days is good enough... (if you stick to a decent brand...)

I ALWAYS use Corsair.

G-Skill is good

Kingston is good

...

Not sure if 1x 16GB alreadu is available for buying... IIRC it was when DDR4 came out.

But 2x 8GB will be VERY fine. Heck 2x 4GB is still enough.

Unless your doing heavy 3D stuff (not gaming)

As for speed: At least 1600MHz, 1866MHz is the sweet spot and anything above is a waste of money... for normal PC usage.

Timings also. Buy the lowest you can get (eg 9-9-9-24) but if you find 9-10-9-27 for half the price, go for that! We're talking millieseconds here...

But as you don't provide info for what you will use the PC for and the motherboard you have, it's hard to choose for you wink.gif

Also you can use the SEARCH field on this site thumb.gif

Lets say I will be using the ASUS Z87-DELUXE (I am still planning my next buy)

And if I will wait for DDR 4, so will I need to search for a kit with the same timings (9-x-x-x) and speed (1866) you recommended above?

DDR4 is not backwards compatible with any other memory socket, so When DDR4 comes out, it won't work in the z87 deluxe. Honestly though, you probably won't see a great deal of difference in gaming anyway.

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820233536 I would go with that. Corsair makes great memory and RAM of that speed is perfect for gaming and pretty much anything else. Anything faster is really kind of pointless.

Unless you realy want the ac WiFi (and you already have an IEEE 802.11ac-router) you can get the Z87 with a socket 1150 CPU...

I would buy the Z77 Deluxe... with a 3th gen proc (socket 1155)

These are getting less hot, it can use PCI-e SLi at both cards 16x (but you won't notice a difference vs 8x..)

And I guess it's a cheaper setup...

But any of the 2 mentioned will work just fine / the same more or less.

Also DDR4 is same as 3 more or less... not waiting for that...

If you buy the Z77, Z87 with DDR3 or something newer in future with DDR4, you will not notice the difference in performance gaming wise.

You might "feel" a difference in programs...

But you won't feel it, just see it if yoo do a benchmark or so... But real-life you won't see a thing
