Is the FT02 Discontinued? - Page 2

Silverstone rep confirms that the case is not discontinued.

I think there must be something up with the NZ supplier - even the old FT01 has more places listing it over here (by the way, I'm suprised the FT01 is still going and I'm half tempted to buy one of those too for old time's sake).

FT01 is a poor design. the filters are impossible to remove from the top of the case, you practically have to remove the entire fan mount assembly to get to the filter.

the only thing good about the FT01 is that they learned their lessons and improved upon the design of the FT02 biggrin.gif

Yep, but the FT01 is like a sexy mini TJ07.
Edit:
About the silver FT02, I can't see it being a hard sale, I kinda wish that I picked up the silver instead because I like the Mac Pro style and I can see people building Hackintosh systems using the FT02S over modding something like a powermac G5 because it's easier and still has the sleek apple design.

I know that, I had the case. The front fan filter was just as accessible as the FT02's filters, but yeah, that top filter design always baffled me...

We actually did update the FT01 more than three years ago with a revised design that allows for side removal of the top fan filter just like on the front fan and in the FT02.

You can see this change clearly in the last photo of this page from a roundup review of gaming systems.

ahh good to know. surprising to see that it kept to the USB2+firewire configuration up top instead of updating to USB3.

however, ever since the release of the FT02, there was simply no comparison nor reason to buy FT01 since the FT02 out performs the FT01 in every way possible smile.gif

I will always appreciate the FT01 in its innovation and focus on positive pressure philosophy, it lead the development of the FT02 which IMO is still the best case on the market today.

That's interesting to know. Too bad I had mine before that revision.

There is still a reason to buy the FT01: Price. For my main rig I'll always pay the extra for the FT02, but If you're budget restricted then the FT01 is going to be a very good alternative to something like the Fractal R4.

In this country at least, the FT02 is around $400 like I said, but the FT01 is $250. Last year I wasted $200 on a R3 for a side project. If I'd seen the FT01 I would have definitely put down an extra $50 for the superior build quality. The FT01 is a nicely built case (unless they've changed it with thinner panels or something), and very easy on the eye.
