Critique this build

Thread Starter
Hey guys, building a new rig to hopefully play BF4 on higher settings (my system can only do medium), and for upcoming games like Everquest Next.

I went with a i7 because I render videos with programs that use its fullest capabilities.

CPU - i7 4770k
Mobo - Gigabyte UD5h
Ram - Corsair Vengenance pro 16gb 2 x 8gb sticks 1866 mhz
Video Card - MSI Gtx 770 lightning edition
Storage - I am going to buy the WD Blue AZEX, I've seen many recommendations about this drive. And awhile back I bought a plextor 128 M5Pro Extreme ssd I will be using, still new in box.
Power - I already own one, a seasonic x power 750 watt psu. Will be using again.

Case will either be corsair 540 air or cooler master 690 iii

cooling will either be a corsair/swiftech aio or i will construct my own cpu loop. I know I have the cash for a cpu loop but not gpu at the moment.

Is the gtx 770 worth the price considering new offerings from amd? I've always been a nvidia user but willing to try amd.

I 770 is essentially a 680 if I'm not mistaken and with my current sig rig I pull roughly 50 fps with it set to High @ 1440p.

Otherwise your build looks solid! thumb.gif

You should probably get this GPU instead: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814202044
BF4 is optimized for AMD cards, and the R9 280X has a slight advantage over the 770 in most games.
Also, the UD5H isn't really worth it. You can just as easily get by with the UD3H; but the UD4H has 16 power phases (UD3H just has 8).
Fortissimo

I went with the ud5 because it went with the color scheme and i wanted as much usb ports as possible. In the past I've always bought the $180 to $250 range motherboards and shyed from the cheaper ones although I'm aware i would probably O/C just as well on the ud3.

So a r280x is as good at gtx 770?
I got my 770 cause at the time (in my country) it was cheaper than the 7970 (the 280x is a rebranded 7970).

TBH I'm not sure about the whole BF4 optimization thing, its just a marketing tactic DICE/AMD have employed, it seems to be working, in a few months the FPS values will be a little less "tainted".

Personally if I was you I'd just get whichever is cheaper or a better deal for you

My GTX 770 is running BF4 on Ultra @ 1080p no problem thumb.gif

In all honesty it blows fraps out the water, I wasn't even that excited for shadowplay and now I use it on every game.

Its a passive recorder- but it can be active if you want it, the file sizes are smaller, it has less impact on FPS etc.

All in all shadowplay is really neat
