where to download windows 8.1 iso

Thread Starter
So I know the official way to download the windows 8.1 iso trick.

But I'm getting an unspecified error because I previously downloaded windows 8, but "dirty deleted" the files to free up space on my ssd. Rather than find a fix, I just want to download the windows 8.1 iso.

Anybody know a reliable site where I can download it.

BTW, I have a key and the iso is useless without a key anyway, so I'm not going against the TOS.

You can download it from Microsoft only if you are official partner of them. (you need a username and password for that)
http://msdn.microsoft.com/subscriptions/downloads
If you aren't then try this

+1

Also, I liked this guy's tutorial on it too: http://winsupersite.com/windows-8/windows-81-tip-download-windows-81-iso-windows-8-product-key

Read the whole thing first though...because the author states something very important:
Warning: Spoiler! (Click to show)
"OK, you've got your ISO file. Now what can you do with it?

Not much, actually, unless of course you do have a Windows 8.1 product key."

So just keep in mind...you do need a Windows 8.1 specific product key, or an genuine Windows 8 product key.

If you do: http://www.eightforums.com/installation-setup/31093-activate-retail-windows-8-1-windows-8-product-key.html <~~~~thumb.gif

I'm confused. So can I clean install Windows 8.1 with the ISO if I have a genuine Windows 8 key?

From doing some research, it looks like that's not possible with OEM Windows 8 keys. Windows 8.1 is so buggy, it fails miserably. I was hoping a clean install will fix the issues.

If you google "windows 8.1 generic install keys" you find the keys allowing you to continue the installation. But it’s only for that. After the first internet connection you’ll be asked to input the key that you have bought.
There's also something about putting a special text file named "ei.cfg" in a certain folder on the installation disc. The installation program supposedly does not ask for a key, just installs without activating Windows. I did not try this.

Here's something about that: http://www.jmedved.com/2013/09/installing-windows-8-1-or-8-without-a-product-key/

If this works, you can then use your Windows 8 key to activate after installation from within Windows.

The Windows 8 key definitely does not work when being asked for a key inside the installation program. For that, you need that 8.1 generic key.

True, but you need Windows ADK for that which is a little difficult to use. I am using it to make DART ISO’s with it.
I don't think so. If you only want to create one single USB stick, you just create that text file and put it into the correct folder. All the other talk on that page is about afterwards creating a new iso file.

Yes, you can slipstream the key into the cd – usb so you don’t have to input the key every time, we have been doing that the whole time. Now we have images that we just deploy in every computer and the user has only to unfold the pc or laptop.
But if you have only one pc it’s not too much hassle to input one key.
