Lets hope AMD next flagship chip series wont have an issue like this, although most likely the issue here lies with amd new tuning system with these cards where clocks are all over the place based on temperatures etc.... and something simply is not as stable as it should. You can only RMA the card over and over so much before you either go back to your old card or buy another maker.

Getting my RMA'd XFX card back tomorrow. Anything I should test before voiding the warranty and putting it under water?

My old card would crash on stock settings.
My guess is if AMD doesn't fix this with the next driver update or give out a bios fix or something that can be done. they are going to loose massive amounts of loyal customers.

And with China pulling out of BTC market their is potential for a even further crash in alt coin markets. so in other words AMD better fix these issues or they may find themselves with little to no loyal customers in the near future.

Im a fool me once type of guy i liked my 7970 but with this 290x release i'm finding myself with some major regret on buying AMD this round And considering its not a uncommon issue i doubt a RMA is going to help me out here. thus if they don't find a fix for the black screens and ocing issues i will probably never buy another AMD card again.

If it was just a personal instability issue and i was a rare case this would be a different story i've had to RMA cards before but the difference is i knew the issue would be resolved with a RMA because it was a hardware failure not a design flaw of some kind.

Sorry to hear that. Elpdia or Hynix memory?

You'll probably want to list your rig, it's easier. Welcome to OCN.

Thx Arizonian! It's Elpdia...

Underclocking the memory does the trick, but I don't want to underclock the memory on my card. I owned 3 Amd cards before and they were all without a problem...
Downclocking the memory to 1200 seemed to help, but still got a black screen after a few days, down to 1150 now. Will see if that does it, would be awesome if it does, then I can tell XFX they need to refund me or something, cause this is pure BS and I actually finally have some proof to bring to them.

UPDATE

1150 didn't help, black screened within 30 minutes, doing ANOTHER RMA with XFX, during out chat conversation I got this back from the guy at XFX I'm working with,

"The elpedia ram has had more issues than the Hynix, especially In the 290A’s. However, just because 1 card is Elepdia, and one is Hynix, doesn’t mean one is going to perform better than the other. Failure rate was higher with one, its unfortunate to get 2 bad cards, and you’re the only person in our correspondence right now with this issue."

I love how they keep saying I'm the only person they are dealing with that has this problem, I know I have read through several other posts of people with XFX cards that are doing RMAs.
