Once I shut down the computer and startup it again, the black screen cycle goes again.
I used GPU-Z to see what actually happened when I play BF4:-
1. The machine becomes black screen (Start of the cycle) when the 290x reach 95 degree.
see attached log
Black Screen.txt 187k .txt file
2. Then I turn off the psu and restart BF4 again and the card become stable and never reach 95 degree

Stable.txt 585k .txt file
Please see the fan speed of both black screen and stable log files. It quite obvious that the fan cannot reach higher speed and stuck at 46 percent in the black screen log while the second shows the fan can reach 55% speed.
That is definitely interesting find, however I have tried to set my fan at 66% or even 90% using afterburner beta 17 before I RMA card yesterday and what I found is that I would get black screen but computer didnt lock up few times but instead everything would freeze screen go black and in few seconds game resumed, the players that were with me in an rts game said that it showed me as if i lost connecttion for moment each time. Now, I didnt try to test whether after I had black screen hard crash and booted again if things were stable during that but that is interesting to test. However, I did have one black screen that was very weird, when I booted the pc the card just started to accelerate gpu usage and temps even though nothing was running until finally black screen occured.... I HOPE my new replacement card has no issues but if it does I may test whether what you found is true.
I seriously hope its something that can be fixed with bios/drivers by AMD, because black screens seem to happen even when gpu/vrms are not running very hot so its not heat issue, it would be worse if its issue with memory chips being bad like a bad batch but at this point we have to wait for AMD to get on top of this issue and come up with some clarifications and solutions.
Oh and I forgot to mention during that one time when card went crazy with nothing running after a boot it also emit a whiny coil sound....
Further, I think we may need another poll to find out how many people who replaced their cards still have black screens since the poll on this thread u can only vote once, but if you get replacement card once or twice you should be able to vote again if you have black screen etc.... plus it would be interesting how effective RMA cards and getting replacement currently is. Further, make sure you take a picture or write down your card s/n before you rma TO make sure they dont just send you same card back Edited by djsatane - 11/19/13 at 7:06am
