There could be a solution to some of you guys right here on my build log, but I'll just copy the text here for ease.

Graphics issues log:

Ok, so it's been two days I have been trying to get my GV-R929WF3-4GD card up and running with not much to celebrate. Right now I am on my desktop watching speedfan showing me my R9 RPM of 0, even though I am able to control speeds with the +/- buttons. I don't know why Gigabyte have put 3 4,000+ RPM fans on these, oh well.

1st log, booting, normal, on windows loading screen, Three distinctive black lines appear with heavy multicolor graining. Sometimes before even getting to loading screen, black screen happens, Sometimes BSOD.

2nd log, even if your'e able to run the 13.XX drivers, good luck not having these troubles come back. In Sauerbraten (Cube 2 Game) for instance, some textures were heavily.. well rainbow type reflections, light-maps weren't correct, even the BSOD didn't make me too happy. Solution (so I thought) Noticed the frame-rates were above 200FPS, enabled v-sync, I managed to play another 5 minutes without rainbow type reflections on some textures or anything out of the ordinary.

3rd log, what I did before is connect both my GTX 670 into the 1st slot and my Radeon R9 290 to the second slot with my Nvidia card to my monitor. Installed 13.12 AMD drivers and decided to switch between displays... with blue covered screen with heavy graining, not BSOD but like it. First RMA applied.

4th log, did some research it could be that VRAM is too high causing memory leaks. Down-clocked and ready to game... NO BSOD while playing Sauerbraten. Memory usage (dynamic) went from 93MB to 357MB, temp from 45 to 47. VDDC current 29A. VDDC current in 3A. For about 20 minutes before I exited. Managed to play Supreme Commander FA for an hour before exiting. I guess those readings are normal.

Conclusion, this is a driver issue and VRAM issue.

5th log, the next day I restart my system, the black screen game appears. Even worse, unable to get into desktop, BSOD errors like win32k.sys and memory management. Now attempted to use the earliest driver 13.11 9.4 BETA to see what happens while I've setup with both my cards in, GPU-Z, Speedfan and device-manager have not recognized R9 card. So rebooted, and sounded a beeeep beep beep beep and Q-LEDS are VGA and BOOT DEVICE, leading me to believe my R9 is absolutely useless. Disconnected my 670, put the R9 back into slot 1, same issue.

6th log, I have done some more research and come up with nothing I can do to fix this, even tried driver sweeping on both cards due to switching card slot change. So now I have applied for an RMA. Still no reply from the first submission.

I din't think that AMD drivers are THIS bad.

7th log, I have received my new Radeon R9, since the other one could not be fixed of course. Plugged it into my PC, CCC 14.1 beta v1.6 (13.350.1005.0), GV-R929WF3-4GD Rev 1, and my system runs fine. Nothing odd at all, driver is running, some details of the sensors aren't even reading on Speedfan or GPU Z 0.7.7, but did not launch into any game. Un-ninstalled Nvidia 334.xxx drivers and restarted... The issues came back again. Black flickering screen just before login prompt. After booting in safe-mode in event viewer, I discovered an error 0xc00000D4 that Windows failed to fastboot and so I switched it off. Still didn't fix it. Once entering auto-repair in boot process, it seemed that running system restore to an older state (no older than 2 hours) has fixed the black screen flickering and thus allowing me to boot into Windows 8 Desktop. On a strange note, for some reason right-click takes over 15 seconds to load drop menu and it doesn't show CCC. (found out that was an indexing issue and now fixed unrelated to this) I checked my installation folder to find it empty. GPU-Z and Device Manager is showing I am running 'AMD Radeon R9 200 Series' instead of 'Windows Basic VGA device'.

8th log, After un-ninstalling ALL AMD software (except motherboard drivers/utils) I have finally, first time ever, a successful restart after un-ninstalling AMD software. But I still show as the driver being installed, no difference what so ever.

9th log, In-game on Sauerbraten, 60hz, nothing odd, temps at 43c, nominal 38-39 when idle. Not much load. Let's see how Planet Side 2 holds up.

10th log, after doing an hours more on driver research, I found that installing AMD display drivers without the use of CCC, to be much faster and not show up with a 'cannot detect video hardware' error. Un-installed the beta driver via device manager and switched back to 13.250.22.0 driver that came with my card.

So you're saying that RMA+intall the driver that came with the card fixed the issue for you?

The only time I get a black screen is when I boot up Crysis 3, about a minute into it. Nothing else gives me such a PITA as that game.

I forgot to mention I used MSI afterburner to down-clock VRAM to 1100Mhz than 1250 without reducing voltage, it was more stable then until after restarting PC to notice the card couldn't boot.

If you tried everything you can do or can't be bothered, just RMA. As for drivers, I'd recommend not installing Catalyst as it is just terrible.

I might actually pull back towards Nvidia but we'll see how Radeon holds up the next 9 months.

RMA the card or the game? I can't see sending my card back just because it can't play one game out of all the ones that I have. Like I said, Crysis 3 is the only game that gives me that problem. I had zero issues when playing Metro Last Light, which is another game that gave a lot of people headaches.

Besides, I just bought my second R9 290X :-)

I'm getting ready to do a new build on a G1 Sniper, 2400 G.Skills, 2x R9 290x Crossfire, and a watercooled loop, so maybe, just maybe, something will give in and allow me to finally play Crysis 3 LOL.

i would test your new 290X and replace that 290 to test C3. i play C3 without any issue. if the former works fine, then i agree that the 290 needs rma.

is it with an oc?

Thanks, guys, I will do that. if I do have to do an RMA on the older card, what reason would I use? Surely they wont' accept "it won't play Crysis 3" LOL..?

I have the Windforce model, which is factory clocked at 1040mhz. I don't tinker with overclocking. I did get an EK-FC R9 290X GPU cooler for it, maybe that will help..?

i doubt it is the card. test the game with the new card. could be game installation. after the test and if the 290X did not give you issues, then it is up to you. you can always play the game using the new rig.

i have old games that do not play well with the 290 so i use my other rig with a HD7770. but C3 is a new game relatively speaking and should not give you issues with newer cards.

it could be C3 raising your vrm temps above 95C. are you sure the ek block will fit the windforce?

edit: i just checked - it does fit. with the ek block, my vrms are about the same as the core or even cooler in BF4.

The problem I had was not this back screen, but display losing sync. And the problem was gpu z. If any of you are running that, get rid of it, shrug maybe it might help.
