Windows 7 + Disk defrag scheduler?

Thread Starter
I just checked my defrag scheduler and like i thought i have it set to do it every week at 2am on wednesday, but according to the scheduler the last time it was ran was 3 months ago.

My PC has gotten so slow on startup its kinda crazy, i dont have much in startup folder and maybe this is why?

Anyone else had this issue before with defrag scheduler not running ?

Well i just manually did a defrag, i lost 5 gb's of HDD space? Lol

Like i dont care about HDD space but isnt the opposite supposed to happen with a defrag? And boot up time was the same sadly, time to start saving for a massive SSD i guess (i hate having multiple drives in a system, very unintuitive).

Get rid of your temporary internet files... Press the start button > type in %temp%
and delete everything inside the folder and see if that helps. thumb.gif

I think my slow boot up is due to start up programs, even tho i really dont have that many:

Avast
Steam
Nvidia experience
Razer synapse
Realtek audio manager
Curse client for wow addons

My laptop has a 5400 rpm drive and boots up 5x faster than my desktop with a 7200 drive, only difference is all i have on startup on that is avast and audio manager.

I just set my defragmenter to go off in 15 mins, if it doesent then i know the scheduler simply is not working.

When was the last time your PC was on at 2am on wednesday, hmm ?
I'm guessing 3 months ago, because in order for the defrag to run by itself
your PC must be on. You can always change the time when it runs to daytime
or you can just do it manually every once in a while.

Also, if you notice the performance is degrading over time you could download something like
Advanced System Care and run a deep clean on your drives. Very handy piece of SW.

Hope that helps. thumb.gif

No im always up at that time lol, thats why i set it there : )

I think i might just format, havent done that in a long time and its probably due. Im waiting for a 500gb ssd to go on sale, then all my problems will go away : )

Strange. Task Scheduler might be better to use then...

True about the format. It's always handy to do every once in a while and in some cases even a faster solution.
