X1900XTX & ATI Tool Questions

Thread Starter
After actually getting the ORB to work with my 3DMark programs for once, I noticed that it was only running with my GPU at 500/500, or so it listed. My X1900XTX runs at 500/500 when idle to reduce temperatures, or so CCC would indicate. Maybe it reads the frequencies after the program has ended so CCC has already put the clocks back down to idle frequencies?

Either way, I decided to try ATI Tool, which I used when I had my X850 Pro. I noticed that the fan speed was only at 50% according to ATI Tool, despite load temperature upwards of 95 deg C. I then decided to see what ATI Tool's 100% fan speed would do to my temperatures, and low and behold they dropped to 84 deg C, though the GPU fan was now louder than my 110cfm CPU fan. Much better! But then I also noticed that during load my GPU power draw went from 10.9A to 32.7A! The fan can't obviously be drawing all of that, so what gives? Plus, 32.7A is much more than even the 8800GTXs draw! Something has to be wrong here...

So I guess my questions here would be as follows:
- Why does 3DMark ORB register my X1900XTX clock speeds at only 500/500?
- Does ATI Tool monitors fan speeds for the X1900XTX properly?
- What the hell is wrong with the GPU power consumption measurement in ATI Tool?

I am using ATI Tool 0.26 and ATI CCC 6.11.

500/500 is the 2D speed, which is normal. The clocks increase in 3D mode.

ATI tool works correctly for controlling the fan and voltages.

The power consumption part has always been wrong, it used to give me 42A of power draw, lol.

So the fan does scream like a bat out of hell at 100%? Why did the card never go that high without ATI Tool? And why don't the 3DMark programs read the correct clock frequencies?

I'd rather not have my GPU fan explode... I find it hard to believe that without ATI Tool, the fan won't reach the actual 100% level it is capable of operating at safely...

I know that, and that's what I did. What does that have to do with my questions?
