x-fi disappointment.

Thread Starter
i got an x-fi platnum for xmas with very high expectations. they have not been met. there have been many problems. today, for instance, my system blue-screened and crashed. i had to reinstall xp and reformat my system drive to get my pc running again. whenever i play music, it "skips" as if i were driving in a car with bad suspension while playing cds. when playing bf2142, i hear extreme crackling and popping. is there anything i can do to resolve these issues?

do you have the lastest drivers?
if you do and they still dont work uninstall them with driver cleaner and try some older versions because sometimes older things work better (look at nvidia drivers) and if it still continues try a diffrent pci slot (i dunno why i said this but it could work) and if it still continues RMA the card

Hummmmm..... I am assuming that the card is seated properly. Also, as has been said... update the drivers.

Did you make sure to hook up the secondary power connector? I believe that the X-Fi cards with front pannels require an aditional floppy-style power connector be attached to fucntion proporly. Check the documentation that came with the card to make sure.

If you have a front panel, make sure the power is in as Soadmtguy stated. Also, make sure that your onboard sound is shut off through your BIOS as this may cause all of the issues.

Onboard sound was what killed my card. After I disabled it, everything was beautiful. And as the 20 million other people said, get the *latest* drivers, Creative does a pretty good job at improving their drivers with time.
