That's not a problem. The issue is that they're forcing us to have a google+ account just to comment on youtube videos. Why the hell would I do that, if I already have a youtube account? It's completely unnecessary. That whole "one google account for everything" thing can become very annoying for people who have multiple google accounts for different things. They're desperate for people to use their failure of a product more than anything rolleyes.gif

But your YouTube account was already linked to your G+ account (if you had one, you had the other).

Google has been slowly integrating their services under one screen name for a while now. I don't think that's desperation on their part.

True, but me and many others have chosen to opt out of G+ for various reasons. I for one don't like social services which is why I didn't want my common Google account linked with G+.

Youtube comments are one of the many cancers of the interwebs. I don't know why people would read them. Just watch the video and move on.

Not really, I don't even have a google+... My youtube account is rather useless now.

Integrating to the point that they're destroying online anonymityfor their users. If you're okay with google pilfering through every facet of your life, more power to you.

No, your YouTube account was linked to Google, which is linked to Google+. They are one and the same. Your YouTube account has always been a Google account (or at least, it has for the last couple of years).

As other mentioned, you can simply create a fake Google+ account if you are really concerned about that stuff. But if you are really concerned about anonymity, then you'll stop using Chrome, Firefox and anything less than routing all your internet activities through a VPN hosted in a foreign country. Even OCN's ads track you and take your information. Anonymity on the internet is a huge joke. So, let's not get haughty because Google tries to clean up the comments section of YouTube.

In terms of actually letting you remove information you no longer want to display ? Yes.

It's all over the place, Google Dashboard is crap and just redirects you endlessly, only removes half of what you requested.

Try removing a Blogger account from Google, try. You can't. That's just one example.

Try removing Google+, I still show up as a G+ profile weeks after removing it.

Try removing an android device from your account, you can't.

Microsoft has an easy opt-out button, account / e-mail / profile / info removed, no questions asked.

With Google it is slowly becoming all or nothing, with every service intertwining more and more.
