Worth replacing my stock fans on Corsair AIR 540 for SP120's?

post #1 of 7
Thread Starter
My system is currently working with the stock fans, i was wondering if worth to replace them for

* three AF140 (intake/outake),
* two SP120's (intake) + one AF140 (outake)
* Three SP120's (intake/outake)

Or don't replace anything and save the money for other things.

What i can say is that stock 140mm fans, are dead silence but also i don't think they move as much air as i would like. The stock Fan included on my H100i wich are mostly SP120 (from what i know) are very very noisy at full rpm, but temps don't decrease more than 1-3 degrees, so i'm guessing i can have them slowed.

My intention isn't break records or something like that, but has healty temps and low noise for my Computer.

I'd get Thermalright TY-147 / TY-140 / TY-141s or Phanteks PH-F140TS / PH-F140HP instead , for 140mm. There's others like the Cougar HDB 140mm (not vastly better than AF140) or Noctua NF-A14 if you can deal with weird colors ; Be Quiet Silent Wings 2 if you live in Europe and can deal with the price premium.

For the H100i I'd advise grabbing Scythe Gentle Typhoon AP-15s.

Please, unless you want a specifically Corsair rig, skip their fans. They're nice, but you can get way better for less. Gelid Wings are excellent options, but Noiseblockers and Noctuas top the charts for quality. Gentle Typhoons are typically the most recommended for radiator fans, AP-15's are gold.

I know Typhoons are great coolers, but the few models are avaible in my countrie. Corsair option is the most expensive, so regarding to my first post which one is the best conbination?

Wait, don't understand.

You wrote Corsair is the most expensive yet you want to buy Corsair fans even though they are the most expensive but don't have the best performance? headscratch.gif

Do you have a list of fans you can buy in Venezuela?

This site I found off MSI's list of distributors has only Corsair and Cooler master frown.gif http://www.kode-tech.com/tipo-de-articulo/fans/

I found these Brazilian sites off EVGA 's where to buy and all these are pretty depressing lists of fans

Aerocool shark looks to be a so-so option http://www.vortez.net/articles_pages/120mm_and_140mm_fan_comparison,3.html

Thanks Alpha for response. Yeah, it's the bad part of living at this part of the world, stock suffer of variety and the good stuffs isn't coming. The store you mention, sell just by wholesale and has lack of variety, and regarding to brasil, lol actually i may go USA faster and cheaper than to brasil . I'm considering few models avaibles in a website similar to Ebay here, sold by individual initative.

Those are cheap price:
* sy1225sl12lm-p 1300 rpm Slip Stream
* Artic F12 Pwm

Medium Price
* Sickleflow R4-L2R-20AC-GP

Very high price
* Cooler Master Excalibur 2000 rpm
* Corsair SP120 and AF140

Rest of avaibility are generic fan coolers "with no brand".

I'd get the Arctic F12 PWM (it is used on heatsinks too) and hope you get a good one. smile.gif

The slipstreams are not high static pressure so they're not good for radiators (they lose about 30% flow according to hardware.fr , also sleeve bearing loses lubrication on horizontal mount).

Here's SP120 performance

The quality control on Arctic and Corsair is about the same. The only thing is Corsair has good warranty (depending on your country though frown.gif)

Arctic F12 does respectably on radiator.

No Cougar Vortex HDB , huh?

King of “BEST NOISE LEVEL/AIR FLOW THROUGH A RADIATOR”

The Gentle Typhoons retain their crown on this criteria and really shine at very high speeds, but that differentiation does drop off as speed decrease. The Noiseblockers e-loops also have an interesting noise quality and perform really well at speeds below about 1500RPM. At the 400FPM and 500FPM performance levels by ear I have a hard time telling the difference between the GTs and the Noiseblocker B12-3. The smoother noise quality of the Noiseblocker almost seems to make up the different in noise level. The Corsair SP120 also does fairly well on noise level and consistently so throughout it’s speed range, it’s just not as smooth in noise quality as the NBs are at slower speeds, but it does hold it’s up at higher speeds. None are even close to the GTs at really high speeds though where the GTs have upwards of a 10dbA noise level advantage.
