Considering switching back to AMD

Title says it all. I have a 660 OC in my machine now, lasted me about a year. I was planning on getting 2x 7950s from a local seller on craigslist but unfortunately he flaked on me mad.gif I don't really NEED an upgrade, but told myself last year I would pick a mid-range card to start, then upgrade in a year or two if I still wanted more performance (I do). I also am working on another guest rig in my room and would love the 660 in there.

I REALLY was looking forward to the 7950s, I hear they are incredible, especially with an OC. So now I am back to the drawing board, luckily black friday is coming up and prices are reasonably low. I am thinking about either trying to get one or two 7950s at low cost, or maybe a new r9 card. Any suggestions?

I was going to pay $350 for 2x 7950s so it's hard to compare that price point to anything new. I would like to spend under $300 though. I was also considering 660 ti refurbished at $180, but too expensive to still have 192-bit memory bandwidth.

Well 7950's were $200 last month to get rid of stock in prep for the 290's. They're back up in price so it's best to wait until black friday to see what prices are like.

I'd definitely recommend CF 7950's if you can get them for $200 each. It will perform better than the 290x/780TI and for far less money.

They're also revealing a bit more of Mantle in the next few days so you definitely are making the switch at just the right time thumb.gif

Yea Mantle is a big part of it. One of my rigs has a 7850 in it and it does it's job very nicely keeping up with my 660 OC.

I found another seller on CL Vapor-x 7950 for $150 & another $250 for 280x, I'm pursuing the 280x seller and trying to talk him down to maybe $200 or $220. Would be well worth the drive.

If I can't get a used card then I'll end up waiting til BF. Probably will watch for TF 7950s and r9 280x.

P.S. Found ANOTHER seller with 660 OC EVGA for $150, if I can talk him down to $125ish I might just settle for that to hold me over til BF / Christmas season wink.gif

You should buy this card if it comes back in stock. It performs pretty darn close to a 7950.
