MSI 970A-G43 hot chipset

Thread Starter
I just finished building my new PC last night, and the chipset is still really hot.

My GPU is at 36C
CPU is at 20-30C
Temp 1 says F71889A is at 40C
Temp 2 says F71889A is 51C
Temp 3 says F71889A at 33C

I have a CPU & GPU watercooling system with a 360mm rad with 6 120mm fans in push/pull, a 140 and 120mm fan on top, and a 140mm exhaust fan. When running prime95 (8 cores blend) the temp2 hits 91C

Any idea?

Prime95 is an extremely taxing test for any cpu or cooler, but still with water cooling temps reaching 91 seems bit odd headscratch.gif
How are the temps while gaming?
By the way that board does seem to run hot as apparently it does not have any heat sinks on its VRM. So that might be the cause.

The G43 has a bad reputation for catching on fire when overclocked. You are literally playing with fire and should not be running an 8XXX cpu on it.
Please read this.
http://www.overclock.net/t/946407/amd-motherboards-vrm-info-database

For peace of mind you need to spend some money on a decent motherboard. I have taken an 8350 to 5ghz just fine on a MSI 990FXA GD80 V2.

Also, you should use HWINFO64 as it gives more accurate readings.

i wouldnt even recommend getting any AMD msi boards they are plain silly

Msi hasnt ficed anything with AMD mobo's (power phases and TDP is horrid)

also would you be able to tell me what rev. is your Ud3

i had a UD3 and its literally the worst mobo for oc'ing

I mean i had a ASrock 980D3 U3S3 which was a better overclocker than the UD3 and cost me $60

@ OP i were you save up for something like a UD5 or a sabertooth or as an extreme budget oc mobo look into- 970A D3 or M5A97 R2.0 pro

I'm already over $500 over budget. How do I find what rev. all I know is it overclocked with no problems and has only bluescreen'd once (too much hi power draw out of my USB ports)

two clicks and I'm 350mhz OC'd and still stable.
