Will the life span decrease if i left the monitor on?

Hi,

I have a BenQ RL2455HM and i'm wondering whether if i left my monitor on when not in use, would the life span decrease. I turn it off when i sleep but during the day I usually don't. Would it decrease my life span of my monitor? Also, would turning the display on and off decrease the life span?

Thanks guys! smile.gif

This would, to a degree, reduce the lifespan of your monitor.
Because your monitor probably has it's own sleep mode, it wouldn't be noticeable. You would want a new resolution/refresh rate and the input standards would be out of date before it died because you left it on.

Thanks.

So technically, it would be fine to leave my monitor on daily. I heard that CRT monitors would be damaged by on/off of the monitor frequently?
I have a LCD/LED monitor so i should be fine right?

Should i set my monitor so that it would turn off automatically in like 15 minutes?

Yeah, by the time this monitor dies, i'll want another one smile.gif

Most monitors have a good sleep mode now.
The sleep mode is already essentially equal to OFF in most modern monitors.

Just configure your computer to put your monitor to sleep automatically after a time period (e.g. 15 mins, 1 hour, or whatever), and you're all good! I never turn off my monitors, as sleep already now use less than 1 watt, and does virtually no wear-and-tear.

The monitor then turns on almost immediately when you press a key or move the mouse.
