8800gts tv hook up

Well I went out and replaced my broken ole 27 inch pos no name tv with a brand new samsung HDTV LCD 27inch widescreen tv

Now i remembered that my highspeed videocard had 2 dvi outs, so i bought a dvi to hdmi converter, and a hdmi cable (omg ive never paid 50 dollars for a cable before in my life)

After a little tinkering i was rewarded with the windows splash screen on my tv, ahh what a wonderful sight. Soon thou i had my hopes and dreams dashed. I couldnt see all around the edges of the screen, ie where the start menu, of some of my desktop icons. so i tried using the nvidia control panels resize tool, and it looked like it should work fine from what it showed, unfortunately it didnt. From what i can understand the tv is cliping the outeredges as overscan.

So i know that i cant play some of my games, cause alot of the critical info is cut off (like how many rounds i have left in the chamber) soooo im like well ill work on that later, lets see what movies look like on this, so i open one of my homebrew movies to play, and at first it looks fine, but then i notice that almost all of the color has been removed from video. Its also not present on my normal monitor. These are movies that I know are good, ive watched them many times before. (They are also movies that i have put together myself from home films). So Im wondering if maybe windows xp is applying some sort of DRM to them. I shut down, unplug the hdmi cable, and reboot. My movies are back to normal... any ideas?

thx in advance....
